Scotstown Notes

Reserve League Division One: The B team got the season under way on an unseasonably cold Spring day last Sunday. Monaghan Harps were the opposition, and it was the visitors who had the better of the first half, but despite that they in at the break trailing by two points. Scotstown had been dealt a blow early on when Paul Grant had to be replaced due to injury, but substitute Paul Sherlock made a telling contribution to the game by registering two important goals. Daniel McNally chipped in with a goal and four points, while Mark Treanor and Shane Maguire also got on the scoresheet to secure the points on the opening day of the season. The next fixture for the B team will be a trip to Latton on Sunday, March 18th. Scotstown team: 1. C. Mohan; 2. E. Maguire; 3. W. Carroll (Captain); 4. A. Carbin; 5. S. Rice; 6. D. Caulfield; 7. R. Reserve League Division Three: Our C team start their season with a trip to neighbours Emyvale on Sunday, March 11th. This team made their way as far as the Championship Final last year, and will be hoping to go one better this year. Throw-in is at 12 noon.

 

Allianz League:  Monaghan went down to a 0-14 to 0-8 defeat away to Derry last Saturday night. Darren Hughes, James Turley, Kieran Hughes and Donal Morgan were the Scotstown representatives on the night. Louth are the next opponents on this Sunday, March 11th.

 

Shamrock Cup: Tyrone were the victors in this Under-21 competition recently with a 3-11 to 1-11 win over Monaghan. An Bhoth clubmen Rory Beggan, Damien McArdle, Stephen Sherry and Shane Carey all featured in the final.

 

U10 Community Games: Training on Wednesday evenings at 6pm at the Kilmore East training grounds.

 

Rith 2012: The “Rith 2012” Irish Relay Run takes place this March, coinciding with Seachtain na Gaeilge. The festival aims to support and encourage the speaking of Irish at a community/local level, and to celebrate the Irish language and culture. It comes to County Monaghan on March 10th. Retirement: Good luck to Gearóid Mac Thaidhg on his retirement as principal of Urbleshanney National School, Scotstown after 31 years of service, and best wishes to Nuala Mhic Gabhainn on her new role as principal of the school.

 

Cards: Beginners 45 in the Social Club at the Complex starting at 9pm sharp.

 

County Handball Championships: Best wishes to Brendan Finan who was due to play Christopher McKenna in the Junior Final this week, and also good luck to Sean Mohan who is playing in the County Minor Final against Emyvale’s Darren Doherty.

 

Juvenile Handball League: Group Three in the Juvenile Handball League has reached the semi-final stage and the draw is as follows: Conor McMahon v. Killian Sherry and Ronan King v. Liam McCague.

 

Bar Rota: Sean McKenna and Kevin Boylan will be on duty at the weekend.

 

Complex Booking: The Sports Complex is available for any type of event, and the Gym is available for any sporting activity. Call Arthur on (086)8516944 after 5.30pm to check availability or to make a booking.

 

Ladies Club Notes:

Ladies Senior & Minor Training: Takes place every Tuesday at 8pm and Saturday at 9am. Everyone should be on the field at least 5 minutes prior to training starting. New and old faces welcome!

 

Ladies Under 16’s: Circuit training every Monday at 7pm in the Complex.

 

Community Games U12 Girls football: Training continues every Sunday at 12.30pm at the Kilmore East training grounds for all those who will still be 12 after the 31st of July 2012.

 

Over 40’s/50’s: We are hosting a once off circuit training class for the over 40/50s,  with a low to medium level of fitness. This could be the class for you! Pass on the message to family and friends to keep free Wednesday the 7th of March @ 10:30am in Scotstown Complex. Free of charge. Everyone welcome.

 

Keep Fit: It’s that time of year again, so let’s get a head start before those wet nights round Kilmore. Let Lisa and Tina put you through your paces while having a laugh. Keep fit every Monday and Thursday night in the Complex at 8pm.

 

Keep Free: The annual Scotstown Ladies GAA Awards Night will take place on Saturday, March 24th. Not long to go now!
