Saturday was a very good day on the inter-county scene for Monaghan, as both minor teams won in Clones and the senior hurlers maintained their unbeaten run by taking full points from Omagh. The minor hurlers booked their place in the final of the Ulster Minor Hurling League Division Two thanks to a five-point win over Tyrone and their football counterparts followed it up by holding off Down in the second part of the double-header to get their Ulsger Minor Football League Group A campaign off to a winning start. The hat-trick of wins for Monaghan teams was completed by a four-point victory away to Tyrone, which has secured the county’s place in the Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A Final.
On the domestic scene, the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Leagues continued over the weekend. There were wins for Drumhowan and Donaghmoyne in Division Two at the expense of Carrickmacross and Killeevan respectively. In Division Three, Inniskeen, Oram and Seán McDermotts were too strong for Castleblayney, Rockcorry and Truagh respectively, while Aughnamullen and Scotstown drew. Éire Óg edged out Monaghan Harps to go top of Division Four, while Blackhill saw off Killanny.
The Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-14 Football Leagues and the Under-12 Spring Football Leagues got underway on Saturday.
