ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
6th March 2012
Rockcorry 1-8 Castleblayney 4-9
The reserve team started their season last Sunday (4th March) when they entertained Castleblayney in the reserve football division 3 league. With a home game in the first round of the campaign we certainly would have been eyeing up a winning start to the season and while we started brightly and enjoyed a lot of possession and territory we were guilty of some awful marking, some dreadful passing and we spurned too many scoring chances that resulted in a ten point defeat, Rockcorry 1-8 Castleblayney 4-9. To be fair, this was a tough first assignment for the lads who came up against a typically strong and swift Castleblayney side who generally outplayed and out-muscled us during the course of the game. I know it’s only early days but the never say die attitude shown by the players is a testament to their character and moving forward it is essential that all players attend training every Tuesday and Friday nights starting at 7.30 sharp so that all the ‘cobwebs’ and rustiness is eliminated before our next outing against Oram. Team: Aaron Clerkin, Shane Wynne, Rory Carroll, Michael Carroll, Gavin Farrelly, Stephen Lynch, Ryan Sharkey, Conor McGeough, Anthony Tate, John Greenan, Garry Calvert, Colin Quinn, Andrew Carroll, Johnny Reilly and Ross Murray. Subs used: Dwayne Rooney, Thomas Greenan and Kyle Rooney.
“Green Jersey”
On a positive note, it was good to see Johnny Reilly back wearing the ‘green & white’ jersey after an eighteen month layoff with a cruciate ligament knee injury. In addition, one of our “Mighty Minnows” Thomas ‘Lazarus’ Greenan made a miraculous return to the team when he come on as a substitute during the game against Castleblayney. Rock-On Tommy!!! Finally, I would like to welcome Ross Murray to the club who made his debut last Sunday. We look forward to seeing you playing in the future and hope that you enjoy wearing the green jersey.
Reserve League Fixtures
The reserve team are in action again on Sunday 25th March when they travel to play Oram at 12 noon. On Saturday 7th April they have another home game when they take on Sean McDermott’s at 6.30pm.
Cardiac Screening
Cardiac screening… two words that have become very common within GAA circles after some sudden cardiac deaths in young players. The GAA advices that the most effective way to detect potential heart problems is for all players, over the age of 14, to undergo some form of cardiac screening tests. As part of the club’s ongoing commitment to protect our player’s welfare we implemented a cardiac screening programme which incidentally started last Friday night when members of our senior panel completed the first module and the remaining modules will be rolled out over the coming months.
Minor Panel
Well done to Fergal McGeough and Lorcan Smyth who have been named on the Monaghan minor panel and we wish them the very best in their endeavors to nail down a place on the Minor team.

After the success of the soccer tournament last year the players have decided to organise another 5-a-side tournament.
