ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Two Monaghan men, Terry Keirnan and Terry Mc Elvaney will represent their county in all Ireland finals. With a fantastic display of world class handball, Terry Keirnan from Carrick defeated Ciaran Burke from Mayo to reach the final of the Junior Championship.
Terry Mc Elvaney won his all Ireland semi final in impressive style in two straight games. Terry now plays in the under 21 all Ireland final.
Wishing both Terrys the very best of luck.
HARPS HANDBALL
Congratulations to our new All-Ireland finalist Terry Mc Elvaney who defeated Mayo’s Ian Mc Loughlin over two games on the scores of 21-13, 21-18. Despite playing with a leg injury Terry won the Under-21 singles with superior serves and two-handed kill shots. It has been a great season for the Harps player having just returned from the USA where he competed in the collegiate competition. In fact he surprised many by beating the American number 2 player while representing DCU. Terry is still involved in the U21 Doubles All-Ireland Semi finals.
Conor Mc Donnell just failed to reach the Golden Masters B final when he lost to Mayo’s Denis Phelan. This was a very close contest with Conor easily winning the first game 21-5 and just failing to win the second game on the scores of 21-17. He had another opportunity in the third while leading 17-13 but it was not to be as Phelan’s lob serves made the difference and the match ended 21-17.
Congratulations to Justas Dambinskas and Jakub Szkup on winning the County Under 12 Doubles. In a high-quality final they just beat their fellow Harps players Eoghan Mc Ginnity and Conor Myles in three games. The scores were 12-15, 15-1, 15-4. Justas and Eoghan are partnered together in the Under 12 Doubles Ulster finals on Sunday. Well done to Under 15 players Ciarán Cassidy and Patrick Sikora on reaching the County final last week. Best of luck to our other Ulster juvenile finalists in Kingscourt.

Eamon Todd’s & Christopher Mc Kenna’s (PJ) All Ireland Junior B Doubles Semi-final as of yet has not been fixed so keep an eye on the website for details and we will text around info as we receive it, it should be home venue(Ulster) and it should be Connacht opposition. Hard luck to Michael Mc Carron as he lost his All Ireland semi-final in the Diamond Masters “A”, he played Martin Crowen from Mayo Sunday last in Mayo, the score was 21-20,21-6, this game probably came a few weeks too early as Michael was only getting up to match fitness after been out for several months through injury hard luck.

Also Frank & Damien could be joined by Gabriel Mc Aree & Aidan Keenan which have some delayed games left to be played. In Nov3 Kevin Treanor & Patrick Mc Kenna take on Tydavnet men Kevin Mc Cague & Martin Kilpatrick, all Finals TBC. Good luck to all involved.

JUVANILE DOUBLES
Yet again we hosted another packed day of handball in St.Mellans as the juvenile county doubles finals came to town. We had a very successful day taking 3 out of the 4 presented finals we were in. First in was the U13 finalist of Ryan Mohan & Finbar Mc Ginn who defeated Ronan King & Mark Mohan of Tydavnet 15-1 15-1, then in the all club U14 final was James Mc Kenna & Gary Mc Kenna against Jamie Sherlock & Ciaran Rafferty, this was a see-saw game which went the 3 games, after taking the first game 15-0 Gary & James looked in full control but Jamie and Ciaran came back in the second and took it 14-15. Then the last game all was to play for and Gary & James just got over the line 15-10 a good game from all players. The U16’s of Noel Flood & Daniel Mc Kenna didn’t have as much success as the Treanor Twin’s from Tydavnet won 21-1, 21-14, the Tydavnet men would be a more settle and experienced pairing and this came big in their favour especially in the first game, but Noel and Daniel re-grouped well in the second game but it wasn’t to be hard luck. Finally in the last game of the day saw another all club affair as Ryan Treanor(T) & Aaron Mohan took on our Twin team of Damon & Chris Hughes in the U17 final, losing the first game 21-4 the twins got some advice and mended some of the early mistakes and got to 14 in the second game, this was a good display boys and a bit more game time and experience who knows what can be achieved, well done to all the winners and hard luck to all runner-ups on the day, also thanks to all who helped to run yet another fun full day of handball for all the young players of the county.
CLUB LEAGUE
The club singles and doubles finals are pencilled in for next weekend so all remaining games must be played this week coming.
All the Juvenile league finals will be run off tomorrow evening Friday the 9th of March, proceedings will be kicking of @6:00pm with the young girls and continue until all 9 finals have been played, we ask as many players and parents to come down for an evening’s fun and give support to these young players for some of which this is their first ever handball competition, also anyone that want pictures of the finalists bring cameras as presentations will be made after each final.
We will be running our annual fund raising table quiz on Friday the 16th of March in St.Mellans starting 9:00pm sharp, we hope to see many club and extended members down on the night to support us in our fund raising event, refreshments will be served with a draw on the night for some spot prizes, and with our experienced music round technician on board who knows what might pop up, so come on down for a good nights craic.
We will be approaching club members if they would be interested in buying a ticket for the handball council, there are some brilliant prizes for the individuals and also for the club, all will be explained before purchasing.
