Truagh Notes

Ulster League: We lost out by 5 points in the first game of our Ulster League campaign last Sunday, losing 2-07 to 2-12 to Trillick. We started the game strongly and were 2-4 to 0-2 up by the 16th minute. Our goals came from Mark Counihan in the 7th minute and a Niall Coyle strike in the 16th where he seemed to get more value of the ball in the lead up than a Cavan man in Lidl. Trillick managed to narrow this gap by the break converting a last minute penalty to leave the scores in favour of us 2-4 to 1-4 . Wholesale changes throughout the 2nd half to the team slowed our scoring rate yet by the 53rd minute we were still 1 goal ahead at 2-7 to 1-7.  However, Trillick added 1-5 in the concluding minutes to run out 2-12 to 2-7 winners. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Paddy McKenna, Rory Treanor, Aidan Coyle; John McCarron, Niall McQuillan, Eoghan Kelly; Pauric Treanor, Gary Feely; Christopher McKenna (0-3, 1f), Damian McRory, Niall Coyle (1-1); Mark Counihan (1-1f), Gary Todd, Justin Halligan (0-1). Handball:

County Senior Championships. We have our first senior champion of the year, Eamon Todd won the Nov1 title in Tydavnet Friday evening last, up against a very experienced Bawn player in John Mc Geough Eamon was relentless in his first game with some good passing shots and roof play he won it 21-8. In the second with a slight laps in concentration and 3-7 down Eamon regained control and after levelling 7 all he never let the lead slip again and won the second game and the title 21-12. Well done Eamon.

County Finals. The remaining county finals are as of yet not fixed, so all our finalists keep an eye out in county notes for details and when we receive confirmation we will publish and text, finalists are Nov4 Frank Mc Kenna v Gabriel Mc Aree, Nov3 Patrick Mc Kenna has made the final and in junior is Christopher Mc Kenna(PJ), Ps all finalists are asked to get photo’s into the county pro via his e-mail so have a shave and shower tonight before photos.

Ulster Championships.  Eamon Todd and Christopher Mc Kenna played their Ulster Junior B Singles semi-final last night (Wednesday) full report next week, they also play together in the Ulster Semi-Final in the Junior B Doubles, this will be played tomorrow night the 10th of February in St.Mellans @8pm against Cavan men Marcus Sheridan & Shane Briody good luck boys. Also hard luck to Christopher Mc Kenna (D) who lost his Ulster Minor Singles Semi-final against his county doubles partner Terry Mc Elvaney (Harps) 21-10,21-11.

U11 Blitz. The U11 Blitz was ran off Sunday last in St.Mellans with 22 players involved both boys and girls from 4 clubs St.Mellans, Emyvale, Monaghan Harps and Bawn it proved a great days fun giving these young players their first taste of competitive play. We had 10 players involved Emma Mc Aree, Catherine Finn, Conor Mc Ginn, Gareth Keenan, Conor & Cian Maguire, Ryan Harnet, Stephen Lavery and Ryan & Ronan Boyle. In the main cup competition Conor Maguire reached the Semi-final and we had 3 players making the semi-finals of the plate section, Ryan Harnet bt Stephen Lavery and Ryan Boyle lost the other to Aaron Treanor(Harps). The final was a well contested one between Ryan and Aaron where Ryan took the first 15-10, then Aaron took the second 15-8, but the third was just a bridge too far for Ryan as Aaron took the title 15-7, but well done to all who took part and thanks to Michael Mc Carron and Martin Mc Entee who organised the event and to all who helped out on the day.

Club Championships. The club senior singles & doubles are still on going but we ask all players to play on the time slot allocated to each game and not during juvenile league or any other time, all games are to be played as per fixture date as not to create a back-log, we would ask if the winner of each game would write their name into the next round so everyone can keep up to date with the fixtures.

Ulster Open Championships. Ulster Open Senior Doubles semi-finals and final and Minor Doubles Final are pencilled in the alleys this Sunday the 12th of February, with some of Irelands top handballers in action including several reigning world champions these are matches not be missed, games starting 1pm, and with Cuman Na Munscoil in the morning at 10:30am in St.Mellans this leaves a busy day of handball ahead.

Juveniles Doubles. A list of the juvenile doubles that have been entered into the county championship is on the notice board at St.Mellans get practising as this will be run off on February the 19th venues and times not in yet but will be written in when we are informed.

Club Juvenile Leagues. The club juvenile leagues are proving to be a great success and with no players running away with any league its all to play for, remember boys & girls top 4 play off in the semi-finals, all coaches can still adjust rules and handi-cap system to suit each league, also we ask all coaches to enter in all points on the both score sheets at each alley and mark of the games also on the sheets as they have been played

Get Well Soon. The club and the wider handballing community would like to wish Stephen Callery a speedy recovery after he suffered a serious knee injury in the final of the Mono League, get well soon Stephen and lets hope to see you back around the alleys in the near future.
