Shamrock Cup Under-21 Football Final

Monaghan v Tyrone, Wednesday, 8.00, Cloghan

Monaghan’s Under-21 footballers will play Tyrone in the Shamrock Cup Final for the second year in a row at Cloghan tonight (Wednesday, February 29).

Tyrone topped the group with three wins from three after seeing off Meath, Antrim and Monaghan, who finished second thanks to their victories over Antrim and Meath. Monaghan are still without star forward Jack McCarron, who recently underwent surgery on a shoulder injury, but they should be able to call on players with senior experience such as Rory Beggan, Daniel McKenna, Peter O’Hanlon and Pete Dooney, as well as the likes of Keith McEnaney, Shane Carey, Paddy and Johnny McGuigan, Owen and Shane Coyle and Conor Boyle. Tyrone will be looking to Ronan O’Neill, John McCullagh, Conor Clarke, Conan Grugan, Ryan Devlin, Hugh Pat McGeary and Shay McGuigan to lead the way. Both sides will be determined to lift the silverware and give a shot in the arm to their preparations for the Ulster championship, which is less than a month away.

Monaghan lost by eight points when the sides met a couple of weeks ago, so Eamon McEneaney’s team will have to up their performance considerably if they are to overturn last year’s result, when Tyrone lifted the Shamrock Cup.

Throw-in of the final of the Cremartin-run competition is at 8pm under floodlights at the Monaghan Training Centre in Cloghan.
