Monaghan bounced back from last weekend’s defeat with a five-point win at home to Kildare in the Allianz National Football League Division Two on Sunday. However, the ladies footballers left empty-handed after their long trip to Cork as the All-Ireland champions won their Ladies NFL Division One game on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-12. A promising start wasn’t maintained for the Under-21 footballers on Saturday when they fell to a 1-15 to 0-10 defeat against Tyrone in the Shamrock Cup. Monaghan are still through to the final after finishing second behind Tyrone, who they will play once again next weekend – details to be announced.
Castleblayney edged out Derry side Steelstown in the Ulster Club Senior Football League on Sunday, a day after Truagh got the better of another Derry club, Bellaghy. Blayney’s hurlers got a walkover from Na Seamróga in the Táin League on Saturday, while Carrickmacross beat Knocks from Fermanagh and Truagh fell to a six-point defeat against Lurgan Seán Treacys.
