ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
14th February 2012
Presentation Night
Hi folks, I hope you are all keeping Friday 24th February free because the biggest event of the year so far, our social and presentation night, will be held in St. Mary’s Hall. On the night we will be rewarding various players, at senior, reserve and minor level, for their hard work and commitment over the past year and members of the victorious minor team will receive their medals. In addition, we will also be honouring the latest inductee into our hall of fame. Known as the clubs most prestigious honour the hall of fame award recognizes those outstanding individuals who through their exceptional work and interest have made a significant contribution to the club over the years. This is always an exciting and special night as we get to let our hair down, kick back and enjoy a great night of fun in the company of friends and colleagues and as this is our first big event of 2012 we would encourage as many people as possible to try to attend in what we hope will be the first of many great nights this year! Woo-Hoo, let’s have a party!
The “Mighty Minnows”
In 1982 the club experienced one of the most exciting sporting occasions winning the ‘McCaldin Shield’ and the ‘Dr. Ward Cup’ to claim the Junior Double. But it was also the emergence of an under 10 team that caused the most surprise and gave us the most satisfaction to those who followed juvenile football in 1982. The “Mighty Minnows” as they were so-called, displayed the skills and traits of all that is good in Gaelic football and they were a treat to watch. They entered and won the Ballybay tournament over the summer months, beating a gallant Tullycorbett team in the final. This year marks the 30th anniversary and the club intends to honour all the players at our upcoming social & presentation night.
Training
The lads had their first training session last week and I was very impressed with the turnout of players. It was good to see a blend of youthful energy along with some off the more ‘experienced’ players in attendance. Jim Clifford our manager took us through our paces with a ‘gentle’ session just to break us in! With the first round of the Intermediate league fixed for Wednesday 11th April and with the Reserve football competitions starting at the beginning of March it will be important to keep the numbers high at training.
Juvenile Membership
Our youth officer Pascal Smyth visited both primary schools in the village last Tuesday to distribute club information packs. The information pack contains the following documents and it is important that all players and parents make themselves familiar with them. 1. A copy of our “Code of Best Practice for juvenile players and their parents. 2. Juvenile Membership Application Form, which must be renewed on an annual basis and the subscription fee for the year is €5. 3. A copy of his Youth Officer’s report which was presented at our AGM in January. This will provide you with an overview of all the activities in our under-age section during the last year. Parents of children who are not attending either of the two primary schools in the village or who attend second level schools (U14s, U16s & U18s) and who intend participating in club activities this season are asked to collect the necessary documentation from Coyle’s Service Station. The returnable section only (bottom of page 3) of the ‘Code of Best Practice’ signed by both parents and the player and the completed Juvenile Membership Application Form (with the €5 subscription) should be placed in a sealed envelope, addressed to ‘Youth Officer, Rockcorry GAA’ and returned to Coyle’s Service Station as soon as possible and no later than Monday 20th February. It is very important that parents respond by the above date so that the player is registered before the end of February. This is necessary in order to ensure that the player is insured for all coaching and games for the coming year. A juvenile meeting will be held sometime next week details to follow.

A Level 1 Youth & Adult coaching course will be held on Friday 2nd (7pm to 10pm) and Saturday 3rd March (9.30am to 4pm) and or Friday 9th and Saturday 10th March.
