Bord Gáis Ladies National Football League Division One

Monaghan v Meath, Sunday, 2.00, Tyholland

Monaghan’s ladies footballers will attempt to bounce back from last Sunday’s defeat to Cork when they host Meath in the third round of the National League this Sunday.

Having kicked the year off in style by retaining the Dowd Cup and beating Laois in the league, the All-Ireland champions proved a step too far down in the Rebel County, but Monaghan can still be positive about their form and their chances. Meath have had a similar start to the NFL, beating Tyrone before losing to Dublin.

As ever, Monaghan will look to the likes of Sharon Courtney, Cathriona McConnell, Therese and Gráinne McNally, Ciara and Aoife McAnespie and Amanda Casey to lead the way. Meath’s main players include Katie O’Brien, Geraldine Doherty, Shauna Bennett and Aedin Murray.

Five Monaghan players have been named in the Ulster football panel for this Sunday’s inter-provincial championship semi-final against Connacht in Sligo, including captain Darren Hughes from Scotstown.

Monaghan clubs will also be in action in the Ulster Club Senior Football League and the Táin Club Hurling League this weekend. Truagh will attempt to build on last weekend’s win over Bellaghy when they travel to Slaughtneil in Derry for a floodlit game at 8.15 on Friday in the Ulster Club SFL Group A, while Castleblayney protect their unbeaten record away to Glenullin on Saturday. Castleblayney’s hurlers are at home to Lisbellaw in Division 3B of the Táin League on Saturday – a repeat of last year’s Ulster IHC semi-final, which Blayney won. Meanwhile, Carrickmacross are at home to Clonguish from Longford in Division 5A and Truagh have an away game against All Saints Ballymena in Division 5B.
