Clontibret Camogie News.
Congratulations to our county players who were guests at the Presentation Dinner in the Westenra Arms on Saturday evening last where the guest-of–honour was Ms. Joan O Flynn, National Camogie President. Malachy Trainor, in his first official function as county Cathaoirleach, acquitted himself with aplomb and kept proceedings running smoothly.
Congratulations in particular to Nicola Morgan who was the surprised recipient of the ‘Player of the Match’ award for the Senior League final played last October, which was also presented on Saturday night.
Following the meal it was all aboard the Club Mex bus for a long night boogying!
This Saturday, Feb 4, hails the start of the Camogie Association’s ‘Mum and Me’ programme – to be known in Clontibret as ‘Mum without Me’ – when mums who are interested in getting fit, or perhaps just a little fitter, having fun and learning the basics of camogie should meet in the Community Centre at 4pm. Should your daughter have a helmet please bring it along though a small number of helmets will be available. A hurl is not necessary as indoor hurls will be provided. So come along for 1 hr and enjoy the craic.
On Monday, Feb 6, the monthly meeting of Monaghan Board takes place and hopefully Clontibret will be well-represented.
On Friday last Marie Greenan, in her role as County Development Officer, travelled to Cookstown, Co Tyrone, for a training event – and dinner! – with other officers from various Ulster counties. Marie found the experience very worthwhile and beneficial.
Our Club Registration night takes place on Tuesday Feb 21, upstairs in Clontibret Community Centre. This is an important event as it affords parents and their daughters the opportunity to register, find out what competitions/events their daughter may be participating in this year and most-importantly listen to our Children’s Officer, Mary McQuaid, give a short talk on the Safeguarding Children guidelines and their relevance and practical application in the Club. So pencil the date into your diary please.
Plans are well advanced for our club Presentation Function which takes place in the Westenra Arms on Saturday March 3rd. In a new departure medals will be presented to the U-14, U-16, Senior and County Players as well as a number of individual awards. Tickets will be issued to all U-14/U-16 players this weekend and it is important to note that minors must be accompanied by at least 1 parent. Adult tickets are on sale at €20. So why not treat yourself to a great night of food, music and celebration on March 3 in the Westenra. Music by Tiger Named Alf.
Finally, best wishes to Jennifer Duffy – yes, poor Jennifer AGAIN!! – who took umbrage with the walls of the Community Centre –AGAIN!- sustaining a head injury this time!!! Definitely a child best suited to the great outdoors!! Wishing you a speedy recovery Jennifer.
