Ulster League – We remain unbeaten in the Ulster League after Saturdays draw with Killybegs at Oram. Blayney started extremely brightly and raced into a 1-2 to no score lead after 15 minutes. The goal came from Niall Dufy and was sandwiched between points from Paddy Mallon and Ciaran McGinn. Killybegs gradually started to get a stranglehold around the middle of the field and 5 unanswered points in the second quarter saw the teams go in level at half time. Blayney again began the second period brightly and points from Niall Duffy and Brendan McElroy saw them lead by two. An oppurtunist goal from Killybegs then saw them take the lead for the first time but Gerry Brady restored parity shortly after. In the last 10 minutes Killybegs edged ahead three times but each time Blayney were equal to the task and points from Brendan McElroy, Ciaran McGinn and Niall Duffy ensured the spoils were shared, 1-08 each. We enter this weekends final round of league games with a good chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages. Our game is at home to Moortown (Tyrone) and takes place in Oram on Saturday at 3PM.
Junior C – As a result of winning the league last year the Cs find themselves operating at a higher level this season but we’re sure Malachy and his backroom team are up to the challenge. The league campaign begins this Sunday with a trip to Rockcorry this Sunday for a 2PM throw-in.
Referees – The county board are currently recruiting new referees and we would ask anybody interested in refereeing for the club to contact club secretary Melissa Conlon before 5th of March.
Cairde Fág An Bealach – The Faughs fundraising drive, Cairde Fág on Bealach, is now well underway and the response thus far has been very positive. The aim of the scheme is to facilitate Faughs supporters and the local community in making a financial contribution to the St Marys Park development. There are two levels of contribution. People can commit €240 per year either as one yearly payment or a monthly payment of €20 per month. This will give the subscribers a special jacket and membership of the newly revamped lotto with major weekly prizes. Alternatively people can commit to paying €120 per year either by one yearly payment or a monthly payment of €10 per month, this will exclude membership of the new lotto. Our sellers will be contacting members in the near future; alternatively anyone interested in becoming a member can contact Club Treasurer Bob O Donnell on 087-6025027, Declan at Loughman Sports or any committee member.
