By michael Wed 21st Dec

On Saturday past 17th December saw the last session of Monaghan Development Squad Stenght & Conditioning programme for 2011. This programme was kicked of on Sunday 2nd October by Eamon McEneaney, Colin McAree and Dick Clerkin in St Macartan’s Sports hall. At this launch all three stressed the importance of Strength & Conditioning for a Gaelic Footballer’s. They highlited the benefits of such programmes in terms of injury prevention and building the foundations for strength, speed development and power so players can reach their full potential. In addition to this they stressed the importance of players being committed to the programme and in order for them to reach their potential they will have to work hard at their game. On the same day Monaghan Coaching staff and Development Squad coaches lead by Marty Corey carried out Functional Screening tests on players form the U14 & U15 Development squads. As a result of this each player was given a corrective exercise programme which was monitored and adopted by Marty Corey. In all 10 sessions were delivered to the squads from October to December in Rath Na Og in Castleblayney and St Macartans College Monaghan. During this period presentations were also given to the players on Nutrition & Hydration and Injury Prevention. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the players for their committment and dedication shown to the programme. Its very evident to see the improvement that these players have made as a result of their hard work and the benefits of undertaken this programme on a weekly basis. In addition to this I would like to thank the Development squad management teams, coaching staff and in particularly Marty Corey for his undoubted committment to ensure that these players are giving every opportunity to reach their potential. Finnally I would like to thank Rath Na Og and St Macartans for the use of their excellent facilities. This programme will be re commencing on Saturday 7th January 2012.
