Mr & Mrs.: Our ‘Mr. & Mrs.’ fundraiser takes place in the clubhouse this Saturday (November 12) at 9pm. All sections of the club will be represented on the night, which is set to be a great occasion for the entire family. The participants are Club Chairman Dermot Brannigan and Liz; senior footballer Dean Fanning and Maggie; Hugh and Maria McKenna, representing the club lotto; senior hurler Jack Lee and Sinéad; senior ladies footballer Orla Callan and Derek and handball representative Peter Clerkin and Brenda. There will also be traditional music on the night. Admission on the door is €10 and all club members are asked to support.

Management: A development group sub-committee has been established to make recommendations to the club for management of all juvenile and reserve teams for 2012. If you are interested in getting involved in coaching or you know someone who is, please give name to sub-committee chairman Ciarán Mulligan at 086 8411275 before November 15. The group will make recommendations at a football-development meeting on November 23.

Scór: Congratulations to all participants in the Spraoi Scór at Tullycorbet Community Centre on Friday week last. Our club had entrants in five of the eight disciplines on the night and all were a credit to their mentors, club and family. It’s been a long time since we had such a strong contingent participating at this level and is very refreshing to realise the exceptional talent of youth from Monaghan town, so well done to all involved. The disciplines and entrants were as follows: Solo singer: Tara Gilsenan (overall winner), Annan Connor; Ballad (overall winners): Lee Saunders, Annan Connor, Seán McKenna, Tara Gilsenan, Laura Drum; Recital: Rossa Gilsenan; Instrumentalist: Carla Clerkin, Tara Gilsenan, Seán McKenna, Aisling Gallagher, Leah Reilly, Rossa Gilsenan, Casey-Jean Healy, Clare Duffy, Aisling O’Riordan, Simone Clerkin; Quiz Team: Colin Peppard, Lorcan O’Rourke, Conor McCrystal, Killian Conlon, Shane McCabe, Seán Conway

Street League: Monahan Harps juvenile street leagues continued last Friday. Standout players this week were Niall McManus and James Bourke who led their team to win by one point, although the other team played their hearts out led by Jordan Clerkin and Killian McAdam. There will be no street leagues this Friday. Street leagues resume on Sunday mornings from 10.30-11.30.

AGM: Nomination forms have been sent out ahead of the club’s Annual General Meeting, which takes place on Sunday, November 27. To make nominations, motions or proposals, the forms must be returned to Club Secretary Lorcan McAdam by Monday, November 21. We encourage as many as possible to attend and get involved in the running of our club. The juvenile club’s AGM has been fixed for Thursday, November 24.

Quiz: We will be hosting a table-quiz in the clubhouse on Friday, December 9. Keep in touch with the club notes and website for more details in the run-up to this event.

Aido File: Happy birthday to Jack Lee who celebrated a big milestone in style at the weekend. Jack one of our most senior players turned 30 on Saturday last and got one step closer to retirement! Jack is however representing the hurling club in the Monaghan Harps Mr. and Mrs. on Saturday in Gavan Duffy Complex. Best of luck to Jack and hope to see you all there, entry at the door costs €10. Hard luck to our Under-13 hurlers, who lost the final of the floodlit league on Thursday last. Hopefully this will encourage lads to raise their game for Féile next year.

Handball: Congratulations to Ramunas on his victory over T.J. Byrne from Mayo in the preliminary round of the Junior Nationals which were held in Leixlip on Sunday last. In a very close first game, he showed how much he has progressed since last year with low hard serves to the left. While his opponent led early on, Ramunas kept to his game plan and drew level at 11-11. T.J. unfortunately sustained an injury and while he completed the first game, he was unable to resume for the second. Ramunas now meets the number one player Johnny Woods from Tyrone. Johnny is the clear favourite to win the Under-15 A competition, where the winner will get to travel to the USA in December as part of the Irish team. However, Ramunas holds no fear for his encounter in Kilkenny this coming weekend. In fact he is looking forward to competing with the best player in Ireland at this grade. We also have five other players competing in Kilkenny at Under-19 and Under-11. They are Terry McElvaney, Cailean Myles, Justas, Jakub Szkup and our youngest-ever player Eoghan McGinnity. The Challenger One league is proving very successful.  Tiernan O’Rourke and Liam Conway lead the way following wins over Mike Bradley and Dillon McClave.

Coaching: An impressive line-up of coaches and tutors will take part in a Football Coaching Conference at St. Macartan’s College on Saturday, November 26. The conference, which costs €10 or €30 for four from one club, aims to provide quality information and innovative methods of delivery for coaches working with players from 6 to 16 years of age.

Clubhouse: The Gavan Duffy Park clubhouse, which offers fully-lighted lounge and function-room and ample car-parking space, is available to book for parties and functions, by contacting Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204.

Gloria: We are delighted to welcome well-known Monaghan-born singer Gloria to the clubhouse at Gavan Duffy Park on Saturday, December 3.

Twitter: Our twitter page is a good way of keeping in touch with club news. We are still playing catch-up on other local clubs, so get following @MonaghanHarps!

JobBridge: The first phase of internships as part of the GAA/JobBridge scheme is now up and running. Please visit our club website for full details.

People of the Year: Rehab will be hosting the Monaghan People of the Year Awards on Friday, December 9 in the Hillgrove Hotel. The awards, sponsored by Silver Hill Foods, are a unique opportunity to publicly honour people who have made an extraordinary contribution to their community. Club and Community Groups can nominate their “unsung hero” by cutting out the coupon in the Northern Standard or on Facebook. Tickets and inquiries to Mary Gamble 086 0432428
