Latton and Cremartin advance in Ulster club championships

By michael Sun 13th Nov

It was a case of ‘two out of three ain’t bad’ for Monaghan teams in Sunday’s AIB Ulster Club Championship matches. Latton upset the odds with a 0-10 to 0-9 win over Donegal champions Glenswilly in the Senior Football Championship at Ballybofey. Latton led for most of the way in a tightly-contested game, with Shane Coyle, Hugh McElroy, Owen Lennon, Owen Duffy and Stephen Fitzpatrick all among the scorers. Having led by four points inside the last quarter, Latton’s lead was cut to the minimum by the end and they had Edmund Lennon sent off on a second yellow card, but the Monaghan champions held on to set up a clash with Down side Burren next Sunday.

Cremartin are through to the Ulster Club Junior Football Championship Final after they cruised through their semi-final against Burt in Enniskillen. Cremartin restricted their Donegal opponents to just two points in each half of a 1-8 to 0-4 win, which sees the Shamrocks through to the decider against Derrytresk from Tyrone on November 27.

Carrickmacross are out of the Intermediate Football Championship, however, after they lost to a strong Craigbane team from Derry. Carrick led by four points with half-time approaching, but a quick burst of 1-2 without reply turned the game in favour of Craigbane, who pulled away in the second half to win by 1-14 to 0-9 against a Carrick team whose chances were hit by a red card to Mark Downey 25 minutes from time.
