MONAGHAN PICK UP 4 ALL STAR AWARDS AND ULSTER YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
There were great celebrations in the City West Hotel Dublin on Saturday night last when Monaghan collected four All Star Awards. Over 1000 people attended the gala event, many from the Farney county. There were double celebrations in the Mc Nally household, as Grainne and Therese picked up their first ever All stars. Grainne had been outstanding all year in the full back line, and likewise Therese on the half forward line. Sharon Courtney picked up her second All Star for her outstanding displays at full back. She was an inspirational captain all year and well deserving of her award. Ciara Mc Anespie also picked up her second All Star award for her excellent performances up front . All 4 girls were fully deservant of their awards. Monaghan’s 6 other nominees, Christine Reilly, Aoife Mc Anespie, Amanda Casey, Cora Courtney, Catriona Mc Connell and Caoimhe Mohan can also feel proud. Getting nominated is a wonderful achievement and I’d say none of them were too far off receiving an All Star. Many felt Monaghan deserved a few more for their performances all year, but 4 All Stars and 10 nominees is a wonderful achievemen, and on behalf of the county board, we congratulate each and every one of them. Cork All Ireland champions received 6 awards, with Laois and Dublin receiving 2 each. Meath picked up the remaining award with Irene Munnelly receiving the goalkeeping position.

Juliet Murphy saw off Sharon Courtney and her team mate Breige Corkery to receive the inaugural Senior Players’ Player of the Year Award, as voted for by their fellow inter-county players. The Intermediate Players’ player of the Year accolade went to Leitrim’s Aine Tighe, with the Junior award going to Wicklow;s Lucy Mulhall.
It wasn’t just the 4 All Star award winners and the other 6 nominees, who did Monaghan proud on Saturday night last. Magheracloone’s Ciara Mc Dermott received the Ulster Young Player of the Year award. She now joins Catriona Mc Connell and Ciara Mc Anespie who won this award previously. Ciara was a very worthy winner of this award. Her performances all year for the Monaghan U16 team county team were from the top drawer. She played a major role in Monaghan winning the Ulster championship. Her strength, work rate and committement were obvious for all to see. She led by example from the backline and indeed is a truly inspirational player. No doubt she will be receiving many more awards in years to come. Many great players past and present, have come from the Magheracloone ckub and Ciara is definately another of these.
Well done Ciara
The football season is soon coming to a close. It has been a long year but there are still some games to be finished. Last Friday evening saw Corduff capture the Division 3 title in which they defeated county junior champions Inniskeen .

U13 Ulster Blitz
This Saturday our U13 development squads travel to Cookstown for the Ulster Blitz. Last Saturday they travelled to Down where they played Down’s development squad. This give the girls the opportunity to play against girls outside of their own county and is great preparation for the county U14 team next year. Despite missing a number of regulars, they put up a great performance. Well done to all and a big thank you to all the parents and mentors who helped out. There will be a bus travelling to Cookstown this Saturday. Players will be notified of pick up times. We wish all the girls the very best of luck.
Ulster Writers Awards
Tomorrow night Friday, all roads lead to Bundoran where the Ulster Writers Awards will be announced.
Therese Mc Nally and Sharon Courtney have been nominated for the Ladies Overall Award, and Caoimhe Mohan has been nominated for Young Player of the Year Award. We wish them all the very best of luck.
