Doohamlet GFC Notes

A.G.M.: Our AGM was held on Sunday morning last, looking back on a disappointing year but this meeting was very enjoyable and with our Chairman and Secretary relinquishing their posts made this years AGM very interesting.

Comprehensive reports were given by outgoing Secretary Pat King, Treasurer Eamon Connolly, Youth Officer Jim Kelly, Development Treasurer P.J. Harte and outgoing Chairman John Doran.  Outgoing Chairman John Doran gave a very detailed report on all the various work that was completed during his tenure with the playing field, training field and the development of our dressing rooms.  He stressed the need for further fundraising to remain a priority and with the current economic climate great credit must go to PJ Meehan and all involved in our weekly Blotto.  He also praised the various coaches at underage level and informed the meeting that the future of Doohamlet O’Neill’s was bright.

Treasurer of the Development Committee PJ Harte presented a comprehensive report on finances relating to Development work and hoped that all debt would be cleared in 2012.

Our Youth Officer Jim Kelly presented a report on all juvenile activities during the year with juveniles participating in various grades from U8’s right up to minor.  Our school team won the school league for only the second time in history and our U16 team went right through their league campaign unbeaten being the highlights.

A number of our juveniles are currently in county development squads namely Conor Marray and Jamie Walshe at U14 level and Barry McGinn, Ryan Ingram and Matthew Byrne at U15 level.  Jim also thanked Gerry and Deirdre McElroy for sponsorship of jerseys, socks and togs for our U16 team and Sean O’Neill and Damian Finnegan (Finnegan & O’Neill Plumbing) who sponsored jerseys for our U12 and U14 age groups.  Also James Rushe (Quality Fires & Stoves) for sponsoring bags for our &16 boys. Jim also thanked all the parents and various coaches who helped in any way during the year and also School Principal Margaret McQuillan for her encouragement of Gaelic games at school.

Outgoing Secretary Pat King thanked our Senior Team Management of Tony Brady, Liam Finnegan and Gavan Duffy for their efforts in what was a difficult season.  He also thanked the management of our Reserve team Sean McBennett, Patsy Connolly, Shane & Niall Connolly for their contribution in reaching the Reserve League Semi-Final.  This game was marred by the sickening injury to David Johnston and we hope to see David make a full recovery.  Pat also acknowledged the efforts of Colin Walshe who represents our club at county level and had the honour of captaining our County Under 21 team during the Ulster Championship this year.

Deepest Sympathies were passed to the McEneaney family on the death of their father Mac during the year and all club members who lost loved ones during 2011.

Next up was the election of Officers and two main positions Chairman and Secretary were the main vacancies.  PJ Meehan was the unanimous choice to take over as Chairman and PJ thanked John for all his sterling work and stressed he would be a hard act to follow.

Bernie O’Neill was a very popular choice as Secretary and Bernie is a very adequate replacement for our outgoing secretary Pat King.  Bernie is a very welcome addition to our club committee and has given the club sterling service with the juveniles over the last number of years.  We wish both well in their new positions.
