Seniors: Sunday is a red letter day for Scotstown as they make only their second appearance in the county final this millenium. Supporters will flock to Inniskeen to cheer on their hero’s as they bid for championship no fifteen. Those who have never seen the blues lift the championship will join forces with those who were weaned on success in the 70’s and 80’sand early 90’s as well as a few hardy souls who have seen all fourteen. Championships dont come easily and it will take a huge effort from everyone involved to carry the day. Discipline is key as no referee has changed a decision in over 125 years of gaelic games and they are not about to start now. Keep your heads down, work hard and see where it takes you. Good luck to the management and the boys. Do us proud.
U14 Div1; The Div 1 team were defeated by Donaghamoyne by 2 points in the final of the cup competition last weekend. The loss through injury of Leonard Mc Dermott in the first quarter proved to be too much of a handicap as the winners gradually wore us down in another cracking game of football. Well done to all concerned you can hold your heads high and its senior medals that you really want.
U14 Div3; Alan McKenna and James Curley lifted the Div 5 shield last Saturday in Clontibret as joint captains of the Scotstown U14B. This team has grown in stature all through the year. Their opponents Currin had been comprehensive winners when the teams met earlier in the year in Scotshouse. The return game in Scotstown saw a close run victory for the home side. However, the strong score on Saturday didn’t fully reflect the true nature of the game. But for some fine saves from Darragh McCague and last ditch defencive work from the trio of James Curley, Matthew Rowe & Jamie Mc Kenna the first quarter would have been a runaway success for Currin. Slowly trough the middle quarters the Scotstown midfield of Column Cloisse and Alan McKenna began to get on top and give the quality ball that forwards thrive on. Eanna Deery, Fergal Sherlock and Ronan King began to take there chances and build up the scores. The introduction of Tiernan Mc Gonnell and Pauric Meehan with there fresh legs proved to much for the flagging Currin defence and when Conor Creehan came on to give fresh legs to the defence along with James McCague Fintan Hackett & Devin Mulligan in attach the game was beyond even Currin’s late recovery. A late point from last quarter sub Cillian Sherry proved to be the final score on a memorable afternoon for the 14B’s, Congratulations to all the panel and it was wonderful to see such strong improvement over a long years hard training.
