Intermediate Football League: Curin 2 – 18 Tyholland 1 – 09
Currin Continued their fine run of form of the last few weeks with a good home win against Tyholland in Scotshouse on Saturday last. Played in difficult conditions with continuous rain made handling very difficult. Currin coped the better and dominated the first half to lead at half time by 1-8 to 0-4, the goal coming from a penalty by Jack McCarron. The forward line continued to play really well as a cohesive unit with a great display of scoring from all players. The defence worked hard throughout and their discipline was excellent making life very difficult for the visiting forwards. Philip O’Callaghan’s goal midway through the second half killed the game as a contest and Currin finished strongly to win on a score line of 2-18 to 1-9. This victory combined with other match results ensure that not only do Currin finish in the top four of the Intermediate league but we are assured of a home semi final against Corduff. We still have one league match to complete against Eire Og next Saturday in Smithboro before the playoffs commence the following weekend. The entire team, under the management of Gerard Clancy and Michael Slowey have to be commended on achieving Currins highest ever position in football in Monaghan. But everyone will know that the next few matches will be their toughest ever if that elusive dream of Senior football is to be achieved in the oldest club in County Monaghan. Team: Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor McCaffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Stephen Beattie, Cieran McCaffrey, Michael Quigley, Francis O’Callaghan, Dick Clerkin, Shane O’Connor, Phillip O’Callaghan, Stephen Smyth, Gareth Beattie, Jack McCarron, Ben Clerkin, Subs used: Cieran Keirans, Tommy Maguire, Gerard O’Callaghan, Declan Smyth, Nial McEntee, Not used Dara Brady, Paddy McDermott, Cian North.
