Monaghan’s ladies footballers are through to the All-Ireland SFC Final after an impressive win over Kerry in Saturday’s semi-final. Early goals by Cathriona McConnell (who finished with 1-6) and Therese McNally got Monaghan off to a great start and although Kerry came back strongly to take the lead in the second half, a brace of goals by Caoimhe Mohan saw Monaghan through to the decider against Cork on a scoreline of 4-15 to 2-12.

Magheracloone battled past Clontibret in the SFC quarter-finals on Saturday to set up a meeting with Scotstown in the semi-finals. Ballybay got the better of Castleblayney on Sunday to qualify for the semi-finals, where they will play Latton. The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of September 23/24 and details of the fixtures will be announced this week.

After a rare defeat last weekend, Latton returned to winning ways in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League at the expense of Inniskeen on Wednesday.

Monaghan Electrical

Carrickmacross moved four points clear at the top of the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League on Sunday when they edged a one-point win away to Currin, while second-placed Corduff lost to Seán McDermotts. Rockcorry had a good win over Tyholland, while Donaghmoyne out some daylight between them and the relegation zone by beating Aughnamullen in an eight-goal thriller. Éire Óg edged out Donaghmoyne to move off the bottom of the table.

Carrickmacross had a comfortable win over fellow IFC semi-finalists Rockcorry on Wednesday, while the game between the other championship semi-finalists saw Corduff edge out Tyholland. Aughnamullen had a narrow but significant win at home to neighbours Drumhowan in a high-scoring game, while there was a draw between Éire Óg and Donaghmoyne.

Emyvale lost their unbeaten home record in the Gerry’s Takeaway Junior Football League on Wednesday with a four-point defeat to table-toppers Toome. Cremartin built on their JFC success with a comprehensive win over Blackhill on Wednesday, while Aghabog won by three goals in Killeevan. Emyvale fell to another defeat on Friday at the hands of championship runners-up Clones. Toome moved clear at the top of the league with Sunday’s win over Cremartin, while Aghabog stayed in the hunt for a semi-final place by beating Blackhill.

The Gerry’s Takeaway Under-12 Football League Finals took place in Aughnamullen and Blackhill on Saturday. Truagh edged out Monaghan Harps in the Division One Cup Final, while Emyvale took the shield with victory over Donaghmoyne. Inniskeen beat Clones to win the Division Two Cup, with the shield going to Castleblayney at the expense of Seán McDermotts. The Division Three Cup and shield went to Ballybay and Éire Óg, who beat Fergal O’Hanlons and Corduff respectively, while Latton and Monaghan Harps took the Division Four honours, beating Killeevan and Scotstown respectively. Carrickmacross beat Rockcorry to win the Division Five Cup, while Emyvale lifted their second shield of the day, again beating Donaghmoyne. Toome got the better of Emerald Sarsfields to win the Division Six title, while the final shield went to Tyholland, who beat Clones.

Monaghan Harps won the Under-12 Hurling League on Monday, when they beat Carrickmacross, while Inniskeen saw off Castleblayney to win the shield.

A late goal saw Truagh steal a one-point win over Carrickmacross in their GRM Minor Football League Division One third-place play-off on Wednesday. Truagh will travel to Clontibret for the first semi-final on Tuesday, while Carrick will get another chance to qualify for the semis when they take on Scotstown in a play-off at Toome. The winners of the latter game will play Castleblayney on Wednesday week (September 14).

Platinum-Tanks-Limited

Wednesday’s Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division One game between Monaghan Harps and Truagh finished all-square. The Harps secured their Division One status with a comfortable win over Cremartin on Friday, while Latton are still bottom after they lost to Truagh.

Killanny got a walkover from Currin in Division Four on Wednesday, while Monaghan Harps beat Truagh on Sunday.
