Senior Championship. A determined team effort by the whole Magheracloone panel on Saturday evening last resulted in a sweet victory in the quarter final of the championship over last year’s champions, Clontibret. Magheracloone went into this game as underdogs but they played for sixty minutes as if their very lives depended on it. Their skill and sheer doggedness over the whole game surprised many and ensured that their opponents never got the chance to impose themselves on the game.
The reward for this performance is a place in the semi-final against Scotstown. The two semi-finals are down for decision on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of September with the Magheracloone game taking place on the Friday evening under lights.
Minor. The replay of the championship took place on Tuesday evening in atrocious weather conditions. The combined Rock Sarsfields team adapted better to the rain and strong wind that was a feature of the game and will progress to the final. This minor team from Magheracloone has put in some strong performances during the current season and many of the team members will be knocking on the door for selection to the senior team in the not too distant future.
The next age group are the U- 16 team and they feature in the semi final of their competition on this Thursday evening. Their opponents are Castleblayney and the game will be played in Magheracloone. With these teams featuring so prominently at present, the future for senior football is surely bright. Those mentors who work with these teams should take pride in the fruits of their labour and deserve congratulations for the progress of their charges.
