Launch of Monaghan Development Squad Strength & Conditioning Programme Sunday 2nd October @ 9:45am in Sports Hall St. Macartans
A Chairde,
On Sunday 2nd October at 9:45 am in the Sports Hall, St. Macartans College, Monaghan Coaching & Games Development Committee & Coaching Staff will be launching Monaghan Development Squad Strength & Conditioning Programme.
Also on Sunday next, the County Senior Football Manager and the County Minor Football Manager, along with some current county players will be in attendance to speak on the merit and need for the programme.
Players from the U14 & U15 Football Development Squads will undertake the Functional Movement Screening Test and this will be followed up by each player receiving an individualised corrective exercise programme, based on the results from their test. These individualised programmes will be age appropriate and specific to the needs of the player. The exercises will all relate to movements and actions they will carry out on the field of play. These squad players, will undertake the programme every Saturday over the next 4 months in the Rath na nOg Centre in Castleblayney. The programme will also be continued over the Spring and Summer months.
This is the first phase of rolling out this programme. We will then introduce it in some Second Level Schools and finally clubs throughout the county will be invited to have it implemented in their underage player development programme in the New Year.
Currently plans are in place to purchase equipment for use in the programme, a booklet has been devised with all the exercises and phases of progression for each exercise. It is hoped that this booklet will be developed into a DVD.
I would like to invite club coaches who work with juvenile teams from U12 to U16 to drop in and observe the process, question the method, philosophy and benefit to be gained by applying this programme. We also invite anybody else from a club coaching background, who would have a genuine interest in the role of Functional Movement Screening within the Strength & Conditioning unit, to attend the launch.
If you are considering attending please let Paul O Connor know with names of coaches wishing to attend the session
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Martin Corey, one of our Games Development Officers for the work he has put into researching and devising this programme.
Any questions on the above please get in touch
Yours in GAA
