Under 12’s played Aghnamullen in the Shield final in Blackhill on Saturday last. We came home with a 2nd trophy of the week following up the Under 16 girls win. It was a tight game throughout with both teams having spells of dominance. Heading into the final stages we lead by 2 points and like all Eire Og teams we kept our supporters on the edge of their seats with Aghnamullen pushing for a goal it was left for the goalkeeper to keep them at bay with a great save and the ball cleared away from the dangerzone by his defenders to claim a hard earned victory. Final Score Eire Og 3-10 Aghnamullen 3-08 Team: Caolan Reilly, Stephen McCluskey, Donal Lenard, Kian McAree, Emmett Reilly, Regan McAree, Paul Monaghan, Blain Smith, Chloe McBride, Tommy Monaghan, Leon McCabe, Daragh Hammill, Eoghan Cusack, Caine Toal, Roisin Hammill, Shamock, Jamie McMahon, Karl Markey.

EIRE OG LADIES

U16 Final – Eire Og 2-17 Sean McDermott’s 2-4

Once again the young girls of the parish brought glory to the club for the third year in a row when they won the division three titles after a fabulous victory over our neighbours in Aghabog last week. Played in ideal conditions they had the upper hand in the first half and led 0-9 to 0-1 at half time. Sean’s came out all guns blazing at the start of the second period and cut the defecit to five points ten minutes in. A few tactical changes on the sideline brought the team back to the first half level and two late goals put the icing on the cake. The scenes of jubilation at the final whistle were a joy to behold and this continued as Lauren Monaghan received the cup from Johnny Kelly. Commiserations to a gallant Sean’s team who never gave up. Finally a big word of thanks to the backroom staff of Joe Leonard, Eileen Mc Cluskey, Mary Hughes, Margaret Clear and Caroline Mc Mahon. Squad and scorers – Dairine Morgan, Ailish Clear, Orla Deery, Amy Mc Mahon, Ciarra Mc Mahon, Lauren Monaghan ( 1-2 ), Grainne Mc Cluskey ( 0-1), Nicole Rooney ( 0-4), Megan Mc Elvaney ( 1-8), Daisy Monaghan(0-2), Jacqueline Lambe, Natasha Nolan, Rebecca Hughes, Ciara Leonard, Fiona Hurson, Michelle Derry, Robeyn Lambe. Also congratulations to Daisy Monaghan on winning gymnastics all Ireland title recently.

Seniors: We claimed our first intermediate points on the new field with a hard fought draw with Donaghmoyne on Wednesday last. It was a game in which we left the shackles off and finally found our scoring grove after some poor performances of late. Goals where the order of the day with the ball finding the back of the Donaghmoyne net 3 times. But try as we might to put the visitors away they managed to find a way back into the game. A draw was probably a fair result although we felt maybe we could have got 2 points instead of 1. Team: Eddie Johnston, Darren McMahon, Christopher McGorman, Sean Flynn, Mathew McQuaid, Mark McBride, Conor Ward, Alan McGorman, Ronan Cassidy, Paddy Skeath, Pauric McKenna, Enda Doran, Johnny McMahon, Pauric Nolan, Paddy Croarkin.

We followed that up with our first victory in a while, a victory that helped us climb off the table and give us a glimmer of hope in the fight for survival. Again a good start gave us the springboard we needed to collect the points. Drumhowan are stuck down the bottom with us so this game was never gonna be pretty. the first half was an even affair with both teams missing some chances. The start of the 2nd half saw us win an early penalty and we drove home our advantage with a further 2 points. Drumhowan then came out fighting and levelled through a penalty and pointed free of their own only for us to point with the last kick of the game. Team: Eddie Johnston, Darren McMahon, Christopher McGorman, Sean Flynn, Mathew McQuaid, Mark McBride, Conor Ward, Alan McGorman, Ronan Cassidy, Paddy Skeath, Pauric McKenna, Enda Doran, Johnny McMahon, Pauric Nolan, Paddy Croarkin.

Eire Og Centre of the community for 40 years is still on sale in local shops for €10. It’s a really interesting look at Eire Og and the history of the village itself.
