Clontibret

6k Fun Run / Walk & BBQ

The 6k Run & Walk proved to be a very successful venture despite the rain which failed to dampen the spirits of the enthusiastic turn out. Well done to Cootehill man John Grogan who was the first runner to cross the line on a time of 23.5 minutes, while our own Niamh Magennis was the first female to finish the run. The first person to complete the route was Killian Lavelle on his bicycle closely followed by his cycling friends Jack Gormley, Dean McGuigan, Oisin Lavelle and Niamh Lavelle. Very well done to all the participants; runners, walkers & cyclists many of whom achieved personal bests on this quite challenging route.

Main organiser Kathy would like to thank all who supported the event both by participating and making contributions on the day and especially main sponsors of the run Gormley uPVC and Monaghan Electric, Jerome Savage who organised the route ably assisted by Glen Deery, stewards and race start, Kitty Greenan who provided a very welcome midway water and treat stop, Bragan Water for sponsoring water for the finish line, Kieran Lavelle with Patsy and Bernie Boyle for the very welcome burgers afterwards, other willing stewards including Pat Rooney, Gene Gorman, John P. Mone, Sean Woods, Liam Swift,  David Savage, Declan Savage, as well as ever present Club Chairman Colm Gormley.

With the success of this venture it is hoped that it can be turned into an annual event and become a major date in the sporting and recreational calendar of the area.

Championship at O’Neill Park

Double header next Sunday with Intermediate Championship semi-final followed by Senior Hurling Final. Usual help wanted with stewarding.

Truagh Recreational Tournament
Clontibret 4-13, Scotstown 2-9. Another outstanding performance from our over 35 team as they overcame Scotstown to qualify for the final of the Truagh Tournament. The outstanding Willie Moen open the scoring with a point in the second minute and Clontibret never looked back, Cathal Carragher, Liam Ward and Gerry Todd stood strong on the full back line, Gene Gorman was superb in goal and saved yet another penalty, Brian McSkane and Aidan Kerr provided the forwards with plenty of ball throughout the game. Well done to Mickey Hughes who scored two excellent goals on his debut, Wayne Leonard coming back to his best covered a lot of ground. All eight forwards on duty got on the score sheet. The final is next Saturday at 6pm in Truagh. We will be leaving from the club at 5pm. Wishing a speedy recovery to Brian Morgan who picked up an injury, hopefully he will be fit for Saturday. Team: Gene Gorman, Liam Ward, Cathal Carragher, Gerry Todd, David Ward, Shane Magennis, Sean Michael McSkeane, Brian Morgan, Brian McSkane, Declan Moen, Kevin McSkeane, Mick Duffy, Ronan McKenna, Declan McNamee, Wayne Leonard (Capt), Niall Malone, Cian Curley, Mickey Hughes, Owen Joe McKeown, Stephen McKenna, Ciaran Winters.

Good Luck

Best wishes to our local darts team who will start off their season with a game in the club this evening, Thursday at 9pm. All support welcome.
