Seniors -The seniors bowed out of the championship on Sunday evening after a very disappointing 3-06 to 1-08 defeat at the hands of Ballybay. It was Ballybay who started brightest and they were 3 points to the good by the 12 th minute, Blayneys cause wasn’t being helped by some very poor shooting and when Paul Finley goaled it left us right on the back foot. Straight from the kickout Ciaran Hughes burst through and found the net to get Blayneys first score. Further points from Brendan McElroy and closed the gap to 1 but a Ballybay free on the stroke of half time left the half-time score Ballybay 1-4 Faughs 1-2. A Ciaran Hanratty score early in second half was followed by a succession of wides as Blayney couldn’t take advantage of a period of dominance. The teams then traded points before Ballybay added a second goal from the penalty spot with 10 minutes to go to restore there 4 point lead. Gradually Blayney whittled away at that lead and they had drawn level as the game injury time before a quickfire 1-1 from Ballybay sealed Blayneys fate.

U12 – Last Saturday saw our U12’s overcome Sean McDermotts to win the U12 shield final. A hard fought encounter saw Blayney winning 4-7 to 3-6 after a pulsating game. A very strong first half performance was the platform for the victory. Early goals by David Irwin and Kian O’ Connor gave the team the confidence to play some very stylish football and we led by 2-5 to 1-1 at half time. The second half started well with a point by Craig Callan. However Seans physical superiority saw them gradually get a hold of the game. They scored 4 unanswered points and only for some super last ditch defending by James Mc Adam, Ryan Mc Kernan and Gavin Kelly our lead may have been wiped out. An excellent counter attack started by Robbie Hannratty saw Craig Callan extend our lead by finding to the net. This was quickly followed by a superb long range point by Kian O’ Connor. Another counter attack from the back by Colin Merrick and good play by Joshua Walsh and Stephen Beattie resulted in Francis Mc Geough hitting our 4th goal. Two quick goals by Seans however ensured a nervy finish. A tired Faughs team greeted the final whistle with relief and great celebration. The victory was just rewarded for all the hard work by this young squad. Captain and man of the match Ryan Mc Kernan led the celebration through the town which continued in GR8 for most of Saturday afternoon. Special thanks to all the parents who transported kids to matches all year and to Dessie, Bugsy and Sean for all their help and especially well done to the playing squad of Steven Beattie, Craig Callan, Leon Campbell, Ciaran Duffy, Gavin Kelly, Francis McGeough, Ryan McKernan, Kian O’Connor, Colm Bishop, Jack Callan, Robbie Hanratty, David Irwin, James MacAdam, Shane McGeough, Colin Merrick, Niall O’Connor and Joshua Walsh.
