Clontibret progress to semi final stage of Ulster Club, Shield
Clontibret 3 – 10
Dungannon 0 – 0
Clontibret proved too strong for Tyrone Champions Dungannon , whom they defeated in a home game on Sunday last in the 1st. Round of the Bridie Mc. Meniman Shield, Ulster Club Championship. With Clontibret boasting a number of key players who had successfully retained the All Ireland Junior B Championship the previous Sunday, this match had victory written all over it for the homesiders from the start when Catherine Tomany got in for an early goal.
The young Dungannon side who are in their first year in senior status continually came under pressure in their backline but their goalie Olivia Morris and Full Back Laura Barker did great work in averting numerous scores for their side. Failure to convert a number of free’s was also a big factor in this one sided game.
In bad weather conditions, Clontibret had added a further 2 points to the score board, one from free following one of many huddles in and around the Dungannon goal line. A second goal unsued for Clontibret in the 12th minute when Marie Greenan lobbed her free into the Dungannon square where it deflected off Karen Boyle’s stick and in to the net. The saffrons continued to convert a further five points revealing 2 – 7 on the scoreboard at the break.
Dungannon suffered a further blow early in the second half when their mid fielder Rebecca Barker was stretchered off. Michelle Morgan who was reeling her “Player of the Match “status from the All Ireland was a continuous threat to the Dungannon defence and herself and Marie Greenan converted a further 2 free’s in the opening minutes of the second half. Amy Moen who replaced Marie Greenan got Clontibret 3rd goal half way through and Morgan finished the homesiders scores with a last minute point from play.
