Doohamlet GFC Notes

Philip Courtney Memorial Cup: Doohamlet retained the Philip Courtney Cup last weekend defeating host club Blackhill in the final.  After a three point victory over Crossmaglen in the semi-final on Friday evening Doohamlet played Blackhill in the final on Sunday and this proved to be a thrilling encounter with the game going into extra time.  Under the management team of Patsy Connolly and Sean McBennett Doohamlet fielded mostly  Reserve players with important Reserve league games coming up.  The home side dominated the first half and held a healthy lead at half time.  Doohamlet then dominated the second half with Philip Mone in top form in the forwards.  Martin Hughes and Christopher Malone manned the centre positions in defence but it was the introduction of Niall J. Connolly and  Mark Murphy who opened up the Blackhill defence and Doohamlet drew level taking the game to extra time.  With more experience throughout the Doohamlet side Blackhill eventually gave way and Doohamlet ran out comfortable winners in the end.

We wish to thank the Blackhill club for their invitation to this prestigious Tournament and all money raised went to a worthy cause.  Congratulations also to Niall J. Connolly who was named Man of the Match in final.

Senior Fixtures: Doohamlet play Latton on Sunday next in this Senior League fixture at O’Neill Park.  Throw in 2pm.

Best Wishes: To former player Aidan O’Neill and Lurana Kerr who get married this weekend.  We wish the happy couple many years together.
