FRIENDS OF AUGHNAMULLEN: A great afternoon and evenings entertainment took place at the Social Centre on Sunday last. The afternoon kicked off with matches in U`8S and 10`S made up of teams within the parish and all the boys and girls involved showed their great skills and provided great entertainment for all those who turned up.
This was followed by a Tug Of War competition where the participants were not so young. Four teams took part, one from the Pipe Band, one from the Gym, an Over 40`s team and a team representing the current players. In a keenly contested semi-final the Over 40`s overcame the Pipe Band and the Current Players made short work of the Gym team. In an eagerly awaited final the Current Players showed the benefit of youth and fitness by winning against the Over 40`s with two relatively easy pulls.
Afterwards all made for the Centre where refreshments was served and medals presented. Tony Ward (Treasurer) then made a short presentation about the new fund raising initive `Friends Of Aughnamullen` and brochers explaining all of the details were distributed. The Club were delighted with the large turnout on what was at times an inclement evening and really appreciates the ongoing support of the parish for the work being done by all, not only in relation to football, but in the many other sporting, cultural and community groups that use the facilities.

SENIORS: defeated near neighbours Corduff on Sunday last in the league on a scoreline of Aughnamullen 1-9, Corduff 1-6. Corduff made the perfect start with a goal in the 4th min after some poor defending. Sean Sheridan opened Aughnamullens account in the 6th min before Corduff took their lead back to 3 .Aughnamullen then hit a purple patch coming to half time and kicked four unanswered points, Chris Keenan (2) and Eddie Mc Ardle (2), to leave Aughnamullen ahead by the minimum at the break.
Into the second half and Aughnamullen got a lucky goal of their own when Chris Keenans shot dropped short and somehow ended up in the net. 2 further points from Sean Sheridan left Aughnamullen 6 infront, the first a brilliant solo effort. Corduff replied in the 15th min but Sheridan was on hand again to split the posts for the away side. The game was then stopped for 9 mins as a Corduff player suffered an injury and when the game resumed the home side registered 2 points to take it back to 4 but yet again the aforementioned Sheridan pointed to keep Aughnamullen well in front. In the closing stages Corduff pushed hard but had to settle for 2 consolation points to leave Aughnamullen ahead by 3 at the final whistle.
