Results:

JFC Semi Final: Cremartin 1-06 Aghabog 0-09. Not for the first time this year, we fought back from the brink and live to fight another day in the championship. At the end of a tight first half, we trailed 1-02 to 0-03, conceding the goal with literally the last kick of the half. We were slow to get going in the second half and trailed 1-06 to 0-05 entering the last ten minutes. However once again we dug deep and scored the last four points of the game to send the issue to a replay and our seventh match in this year’s competition.

Fixtures:

JFC Semi Final Replay: Aghabog vs Cremartin in Emyvale on Friday 19th at 8:15pm. Please come along and support.

RFL Div 4: Blackhill vs Aghabog on Wednesday 24th at 7:00pm.

Sports Weekend

Despite the odd shower, the sports weekend proved to be a huge success with something for all the family. The Mad Arabs really got the party started on Saturday night in the clubhouse. Although there were many hot favourites Mary Mc Carville & Paddy Cusack were the eventual jiving competition winners. (Paddy has signed up for Strictly 2012!) Sunday saw a large turnout of families who took part in the many activities that were available with the hook a duck and goldfish attracting large numbers. The highlight of the day had to be “Aghabog’s Strongest Man” competition which was keenly contested by the burly men of Aghabog. First up the men had to toss the sheaf  and although David Norris put up a strong fight, it was Paul Quinn who took 1st place. The second element was throwing the 56 weight where again Paul Quinn was triumphant and finally holding the bricks which was won by Brian Duffy. With 2 out of 3, Paul Quinn was crowned Aghabog’s Strongest Man for 2011. Rumour has it that training is underway for next year already so men of Aghabog get your pitchforks ready!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out in any way to make this weekend the success that it was. A special word of thanks has to go to Frank Leonard who undertook this project with the support and help of a committee who worked hard over the past number of weeks. Alot of new faces came on board for this weekend and we thank you for your commitment to the club. Heres to Aghabog’s Festival Weekend 2012!

The kiddies disco and pool competition that were scheduled for the Friday night will now take place on Friday 26th August instead.

Short Meeting for the Sports Committee tonight (Thursday 18th August) in the clubrooms at 9.30pm to wrap up everything from the sports weekend.

Monaghan OFFICIAL Year Book 2011:

Monaghan  County Board are publishing their own OFFICIAL Year Book in December 2011.

We are asking all local business if approached to ensure that they are taking an advert in the OFFICIAL Year Book.

Please contact local club officers to verify that you are supporting the OFFICIAL Year Book.

Ladies:

County Team: Good luck to the Ladies Senior County Team, especially our club representatives Ellen and Laura, who take on Meath in the All Ireland quater final this Saturday.

Intermediate Final: There is a possiblity that our intermediate final against Monaghan Harps will take place next Wednesday. The final was originally fixed for the 3rd September but if the County win on Saturday and are drawn out to play their All Ireland Semi Final on the 3rd September then due to Ulster Council time constraints our game
will have to be played next Wednesday.
