Castleblayney Notes

By michael Tue 5th Jul

Seniors – The seniors gained 3 points from 4 on offer over the last week. First on Wednesday last last they drew with Inniskeen 0-09 each, this was a game which appeared to be within our grasp but almost slipped away from us in the later stages. After recovering from a slow start Blayney led 8-2 at half time aided by some nice points from Patrick Tavey and Keith Hill. Blayneys level of performance fell in the second half and only one score in the period tells its own story and a draw was a fair result. On Friday night we put in a much better performance when beating Monaghan Harps 2-12 to 2-08. A goal in the first minute from Damian Hughes settled any nerves and we were never headed in the game, another goal from Patrick Tavey in the 15 th minute increased our lead and the Harps were held at arm’s length until a late goal gave us a few anxious moments before Marty McElroy tapped over a point at the death to seal Blayneys win. The seniors are in action again this Saturday evening when they play Scotstown in Toome at 7.00PM.

Junior B The junior Bs re-fixed O’Duffy Cup quarter final against Clontibret took place last night (Wednesday), result and report next week.

Junior C – The Juniors travel to Currin this Sunday evening for a 6.30PM throw-in.

U21 – the U21s went down to a narrow 1-08 to 0-09 defeat to Aughnamullen on Monday night. There was never much between the teams but the early goal Aughnamullen got proved to be crucial and try as they might Blayney could never get back on terms Next Monday night the U21s play Scotstown in Toome at 7.45PM.

Minor – The minors showed no rustiness after the exam break as they put in an excellent performance when accounting for Emyvale 3-14 to 0-07 last week. The damage was done in a blistering opening 20 minutes when we scored 2-7 from our first 9 attacks. Result and report from this week’s match against Truagh next week. There is no minor game next Tuesday night.
