Seniors: A last minute equaliser against Castleblayney brought us some comfort from a busy week of senior football considering how the previous two matches had concluded. Played in Toome, it was another enjoyable affair of football from Truagh with scores traded consistently between the sides to the end with it finishing 2-8 to 1-11. Even though it was ‘blayney who opened the scoring, Truagh settled quicker, with our full forward line of Daniel McKenna, Mark Counihan and Gary Meehan all registering within 5 minutes. Each team scored a further point before Mark Counihan scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute to put us 5 points ahead. However, we only added 1 more point to our score for the remainder of the half, a Daniel McKenna free (27’). The only other occasion we got close in this time was when Counihan got a goal cruelly disallowed. During this lapse, ‘blayney clocked up 1-4, to leave us behind at the break 1-5 to 1-6. In the third quarter of the game, scores were at a premium with the Faughs extending their lead to 2 points in the 37th minute. We then hit a 4 minute purple patch from the 42nd minute, with Niall Coyle hitting a goal, and Mark Counihan and Daniel McKenna hitting superb points to put us back in the lead by a goal with 13 minutes remaining. It was ‘blayney though that got the next important scores, hitting 4 successive points to leave us behind with 2 minutes remaining. Sub Chrissy McKenna came to the rescue with an equaliser on his less favoured foot to level the match in the last minute. A winner could have been found from either side in stoppage time when chances fell at each end, but it was likely the fairest result finishing a 2-8 to 1-11 draw. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Rory Treanor, Niall Feely, Niall McQuillan; Damian McRory, Keith Sheerin, Niall Coyle (1-0); Barry Cuddy, Pauric Treanor; Niall McMeel, John Treanor, Brendan Treanor; Daniel McKenna (0-4, 3f), Mark Counihan (1-2), Gary Meehan (0-1). Subs Used: Christopher McKenna (0-1) for Brendan Treanor (49mins) & Eoghan Kelly for Rory Treanor (55mins). Our next league game is scheduled for Friday July 1st.
