Doohamlet GFC Notes

Seniors:  Inniskeen  0-07   Doohamlet  2-14

Doohamlet travelled to Inniskeen on Wednesday evening last for this most important game and produced one of our best displays this season.  From the first whistle Doohamlet attacked relentlessly and with Shane McManus, Mark Murphy, Colin Walshe and Niall J. Connolly in free scoring form Doohamlet raced into a 2-04 lead before the home side registered their first score.  Colin Walshe finished a fine move involving Shane McManus to fire home Doohamlets first goal after five minutes and Niall J. Connolly seized on a stray pass to fire to the net for goal number two.  Further points from Glen Comiskey 0-02, Colin Walshe, Mark Murphy and Shane McManus saw Doohamlet go in at half time leading 2-08 to 0-03.

Inniskeen tried hard in the second half but were well held by Doohamlets  defence where Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle and Jason McElroy were most impressive.  Shane McManus 0-03, Niall J. Connolly 0-02 and Ciaran McManus all added to the score line which finished 2-14 to 0-7 and Doohamlet can be well pleased with their performance.

Team and Scorers:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Chris Malone, Kevin McArdle, Jason McElroy, Glen Comiskey 0-02, Ciaran McManus 0-01, Ollie Hughes, Colin Walshe 1-01, Stephen Gilsenan, Niall J. Connolly 1-03, Shane McManus 0-05(1f), Mark Murphy 0-2(1f).  Subs used:  Gavin King, Barry Murphy, Emmett McManus.

Reserves:  Doohamlet  2-10   Inniskeen  1-07

Our Reserves recent good run continued last Saturday evening with a hard earned victory over Inniskeen at O’Neill Park.  A fortuitous goal by Stephan Gilsenan in the final quarter proved to be the vital score that gave Doohamlet a two point lead when Inniskeen were controlling the game.  Michael Marray wrapped up the points with a well taken penalty in the closing minutes.

A couple of standout performances, Trevor Duffy rolled back the years with his fielding in the middle of park and used all his experience to have a calming influence on all around him.  Philip Mone on his first game back after a serious injury can be pleased with his full hour and scored four points.  Others to impress were Christopher Boylan, David Johnston and Jason McElroy in defence and Ciaran Finnegan, Emmett McManus and Barry Murphy all played their part in this victory.

Good Luck: To Monaghan Senior team who travel to Tullamore to play Offaly this weekend.

Sympathies: Our club sends its deepest sympathy to our Juvenile Officer Mr Jim Kelly and the family and friends of the late Mr James Kelly, Lackafin who passed away recently and also the many Family and Friends of the late Sarah Duffy, Tattyreagh who also was laid to rest recently.
