From Annagheane to Tonytallagh, the Sons of St. Patrick are preparing to celebrate their history, their successes when things were going well and possibly more important, their determination to hold the club together when things weren’t going just as well.
Currin G.F.C, having reached the midpoint of their 125th Anniversary year, has now launched what will be the culmination of it’s 125 celebrations. The 19th November is the date for the diary and the Kilmore Hotel in Cavan is the venue for the 125 Celebration Night of the oldest affiliated GAA club in Monaghan.
A legendary GAA guest speaker, a wonderful selection of music and dancing, a hot punch reception, a fine five course meal accompanied by some equally fine wine, are just some of the attractions promised by the Currin 125 Committee who are busy fine tuning the preparations and spreading the word near and far that this is a night not to be missed. Members, players, supporters, guests and friends from all over Monaghan and beyond will gather to meet old teammates and friends, old rivals and opponents, to reminisce on what has gone before and to look forward to what can be in the future. A special presentation will be made to the Currin Camogie team who won the Junior Championship in 1973
Tickets are now on sale from committee members and are priced at €100. Each table will seat 10 people. A standing order facility to spread the cost is available and the forms are again available from committee members. On the merchandise front, Currin 125 Polo Shirts are available to order and a particularly fetching Currin 125 tie is now on sale.
The 125 Committee would like to thank all those who turned up at the launch, all those who attended meetings and gave us invaluable help in identifying and contacting our Diaspora and those who have purchased their tables so early. A particular word of thanks to Stephen Burns and Mickey Slowey for some quality design work on the tickets and posters and to our own ever reliable clubman, Seamus McQuillan, who never lets us down when his trusty lens is required.
This is a wonderful year for the Currin club, to reach a milestone of 125 years in existence is testament to the strength, determination and community spirit of many generations of Currin Gaels and the timing of such a special anniversary could not have been much better given the fact that the current men in the blue and gold are riding high in the Intermediate League, a feat many may not find glorious, but one which has only been surpassed once in the history of the club. A small club with limited numbers like many others, it’s fair to say that we are punching a bit above our weight at the minute but we are all enjoying it immensely, and who knows what silverware will be on view on the 19th November. We wish Gerry, Mickey, John and the lads the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
Currin G.F.C. 125 Celebration Night – 19th November 2011 in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan. It will be a wonderful occasion that will live long in all our memories. Don’t miss it!! Throw in 7pm!!
