ROCKCORRY G.A.A. CLUB NOTES
17th May 2011
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Fixtures
This Sunday, 22nd May, our senior team takes on Corduff who are currently sitting top of the Intermediate football league table. After the defeat against Tyholland in the previous round the lads will be eager to get back onto the winning track. Games against Corduff are always demanding and this game will surely be tough, but hopefully, an entertaining game of football. So get yourself down to Naomh Pairc Mhuire this Sunday to cheer on the lads and be that extra man. Throw-in time 2.30pm.
Platinum Tanks Reserve League Division 3
Our reserve team played Truagh last Wednesday 11th May in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league and they picked up their first win of the campaign when they secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 5-9 Truagh 1-6. We had the better of the opening exchanges and raced into an early lead, leading by 1-5 to 0-1 after sixteen minutes of play with scores coming from Dwayne Rooney 1-2, Barry Patterson 0-1, Anthony Tate 0-1 and Colin Quinn 0-1. The remaining ten minutes of the half Truagh found their form and notched over three further points to leave the half time score Rockcorry 1-5 Truagh 0-4. On the restart, both teams exchanged scores, Colin Quinn firing over two points while Truagh scored 1-1 to leave just two points separating the sides with seven minutes played. So a close and competitive second half appeared be on the cards but that was as good as it got for Truagh. We began to reassert our dominance and within the space of twelve minutes we notched up 3-2 to take an impressive thirteen point lead with scores coming from the boots of Dwayne Rooney 1-1, a splendid goal from Keelan Clerkin, (he picked up the ball at midfield and made a penetrating solo run through the Truagh defence and finished in style when he rifled the ball to the top corner of the net), Anthony Tate tapped in a goal on the 20th minute and Liam Connolly completed the purple patch with a fine point. Truagh responded with a point on the 24th minute but Colin Quinn had the last say when he dribbled the ball past the goalkeeper, “Messi” style, to leave the final score Rockcorry 5-9 Truagh 1-6. Team & Scorers: Stephen Lynch, Cathal Sheridan, Rory Carroll, Colin Reilly, Shane Wynne, Owen Fitzpatrick, Keelan Clerkin 1-0, Liam Connolly 0-1, Barry Patterson 0-1, Colin Quinn 1-3, Dwayne Rooney 2-3, Conor McGeough, Declan McCullagh, Anthony Tate 1-1, and Seamus Carroll. Subs: Pauric Reilly for Declan McCullagh, Kyle Rooney for Shane Wynne and Christopher Greenan for Anthony Tate.

GRM Minor Football League Division 2
We made the short journey to O’Rahilly Park to play Latton in the GRM minor football league division 2 competition and the lads played some impressive football and showed real passion during the game to secure the victory on a score-line Latton 1-4 Rock Sarsfields 1-11. We started the game brightly and completely dominated the opening stages and scored some lovely points, from Mark McGuirk 0-2, Christopher Kilpatrick 0-1 and Keelan Clerkin 0-1, to open up four point lead with six minutes of the game played. Latton registered their first score on the 11th minute when they converted a free-kick but as the half progressed we continued to apply our dominance and stretched our lead on the 18th minute when Mark McGuirk scored a magnificent goal and Marcartan Kierans added another point on the 25th minute. Latton slotted over additional points to leave the half time score 0-4 to 1-5. When the second half resumed we continued to control the game and extended our advantage when we fired over a brace of points from Mark McGuirk 0-1, John Greenan 0-1, Lorcan Smyth 0-2 (free-kicks) and Christopher Kilpatrick 0-1 to lead by 0-4 to 1-10 after eighteen minutes of play. Latton staged a mini revival towards the end of the game and we were fortunate on the 24th minute when a blistering shot at our goals rebounded off the crossbar and thankfully we were able to clear the danger. However, moments later Latton were awarded a penalty which they duly converted but we completed the scoring on the 29th minute when Gerard Graham came forward and scored a sweet point to leave the final score Latton 1-4 Rock Sarsfields 1-11. They were scheduled to play Sean McDermotts last Tuesday evening so please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for all latest events, fixtures and results etc. The league will now take a break to cater for the leaving and junior certificate examinations so the next game is fixed for 28th June when they travel to play Cuchulains.
