Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League

I can only speak for myself folks, but I imagine many off our supporters that travelled to see the game last Sunday left Tyholland feeling bamboozled, dazed and baffled at the final outcome! Because midway through the second half we had what seemed to be a commanding 0-4 to 2-5 lead and everything appeared to be functioning well. But for some unexplainable reason we hit the self-destruct button and we completely lost our rhythm. Tyholland on the other hand upped the ante as they took the game by the scruff of the neck and in a ten minute spell the encounter was all square 1-9 to 2-6.  The closing minutes of the game were very tense and with injury time looming we reinstated a one point lead when Mark Daly pointed from a free-kick on the 30th minute. However, the sucker punch came deep into injury time (six and half minutes!!!) as Tyholland in a last ditch effort launched a frantic attack and when the referee awarded them a penalty following what seemed a harsh decision against Owen Fitzpatrick they made no mistake to rifle the ball past Stephen Lynch to clinch victory on a final score Tyholland 2-9 Rockcorry 2-7. GRM Minor Football League Division 2

Our minor team continued their winning ways in the GRM minor football league division 2 with an impressive win against Na Fianna on a score-line Rock Sarsfields 2-9 Na Fianna 2-8. The game was end to end stuff and we enjoyed a good share of possession during the opening half and at the break we had a marginal lead 1-4 to 0-5. Scores coming from the boots of Mark McGuirk 1-1, Christopher Greenan 0-1, Gavin Farrelly 0-1 and Lorcan Smyth 0-1. The second half began with the same speed and intensity as the first with both teams producing some high quality football and by the 6th minute we stretched our lead to six points 2-6 to 0-6, with scores coming from Gavin Farrelly 1-0, Keelan Clerkin 0-1 and Mark McGuirk 0-1. Na Fianna closed the gap when they scored a goal from the penalty spot and notched over a point on the 15th minute but additional scores from Christopher Kilpatrick 0-1 and Marcartan Kearns 0-2 ensured we kept a five point gap 2-9 to 1-7. With five minutes remaining we had a few clear chances to extend our lead but unfortunately we were off target. Na Fianna, on the other hand kicked a point on the 26th minute and they managed to blast the ball past our goal-keeper with virtually the last kick of the game to leave the final score Rock Sarsfield 2-9 Na Fianna 2-8. This was a great team effort and the lads showed plenty of heart and fighting spirit as they battled hard for every ball. Well done lads and keep up the good work. They were scheduled to play Latton last Tuesday 10th May. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for updates. On Tuesday 17th May our minor team has a home game against Sean McDermott’s at 7.45pm
