May Bank Holiday Marquee Event: Just a week to go until the May bank holiday weekend when the big tent comes to St. Mellans bringing a feast of entertainment. Friday night will host a boxing exhibition and ladies mud wrestling under the marquee. Saturday night, 30th April, Declan Nerney will be the headlining event. The last night of the event, Bank Holiday Sunday will see the crowd pulling live band, More Power to Your Elbow, take stage. A weekend not to be missed.

Seniors: In a hugely entertaining game, we came away from our game with Ballybay sharing the spoils under a score line 2-10 to 1-13. Scores were exchanged evenly throughout the hour making it a very competitive match.  We went 1-1 to 0-2 ahead in the 6th minute from a Pauric Treanor goal. It took a further 25 minutes before Ballybay regained their lead, when on the stroke of half time they added a point to move 0-8 to 1-4 ahead. Our points in the first half came from 2 Daniel McKenna free kick’s and scores from Damian McRory and Niall Coyle. Scores were level at 1-7 to 0-10 in the 37th minute when Niall Coyle added to Daniel McKenna and Mark Counihan’s freekick. Ballybay scored their only goal of the game in the 39th minute to leave us 3 behind. However, we kept in touch with two further points from Daniel McKenna and Keith Sheerin before we re-took the lead in the 46th minute when John Treanor fisted to the net to leave the scores 2-9 to 1-11. Mark Counihan added another point a minute later to increase the lead to 2 points. It was the home side however who finished stronger adding 2 points, the second being the equaliser coming with 2 minutes to go to finish the match a draw 2-10 to 1-13. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Mike Treanor, Niall Feely, Rory Treanor; Eoghan Kelly, Keith Sheerin (0-1), Niall Coyle (0-2); Niall McMeel, Barry Cuddy; Neil McRory, John Treanor (1-0), Pauric Treanor (1-0); Daniel McKenna (0-4, 2f), Damian McRory (0-1), Mark Counihan (0-2, 1f). Our next senior game is this Easter Saturday evening in St. Mellans at 6pm.

Reserve Div. 1 (B’s): We recorded our first win of the league with win over Latton, 1-11 to 0-8. It was all the more pleasing considering we were 0-3 0-5 down at half time. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Alan McKenna, Niall McQuillan, Darren Todd; John McCarron, Pauric Treanor, Ciaran Treanor; Dermot McKenna (0-1), Ronan McKenna; Michael McCrudden, Paul Donaghue (0-2, 1f), John Treanor; Sean McKenna (0-1), Gary Meehan (0-5, 4f), Martin Owens (0-1). Subs Used: Ciaran McCarron (1-0) for Sean McKenna (16mins), Gary Todd for Martin Owens (44mins), Ciaran Feely (0-1) for Ronan McKenna (46mins), Paddy McKenna for Alan McKenna & Kevin Treanor for John Treanor (59mins).  Our next game is away to Scotstown on Wednesday 27th April at 7pm.  

Reserve Div. 3 (C’s): Our next game is at home to Oram on Easter Sunday at 2.30pm.

Reserve Div. 4 (C2’s): We lost to Blackhill last Friday 3-07 to 2-12. Our game against Eire Og was then cancelled on Sunday last. We were due to play Currin last night, Wednesday.

Minors: were beaten 2-06 to 0-15 last week. We were due to play away to Carrickmacross on Tuesday last. We follow this with a home game against Clontibret on Tuesday 26th April at 7.00pm.

Lotto Jackpot now €2,200: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot. The lucky numbers were 4, 8, 14, 18. There were 2 match 3 winners, each receiving €100: Paul Douglas-Rainbow Café & Sean Sherry-c/o Josie. The jackpot now stands at €2,200. Next weeks check team: Anna Rose’s.

Entertainment: Easter Sunday night in the club bar local band, Rula Bula, provide traditional music entertainment.

U-6s: Nursery coaching for boys and girls starts this Saturday 23rd April in St. Mellans at 10am. All welcome.

U-8s: Training continues Thursday evening in St. Mellans 7-8pm.

U-10s: are taking part in our first co go games blitz of the year in Scotstown on Sat 23rd April. The go games starts at 10am. Bus leaves St. Mellans at 9am.

U-12s: started the league with a fine win over Magheracloone last Saturday, 1-18 to 2-06. Our next game is at home to Castleblayney on Sat 30th April at 12pm. Training continues Tuesday and Friday at 6.30pm in St. Mellans.

U-14s: play Toome at home on Sat 23rd April at 12pm. Training continues on Wednesday and Friday in St. Mellans at 7pm. There are a number of u14s jerseys missing. If anyone has any please return to u14s management.

U-16s: next game is at home to Carrickmacross on Thursday 21st April at 7pm. Training continues Friday at 6.30pm and Sunday at 12.30pm in St. Mellans.

 

Camogie:

Seniors: Training continues Friday at 6.30.

Juveniles: training continues on Saturday at 11am.  New players are very welcome.

Lucky Square: Congratulations to this week’s winner.  If anyone would like to join our lucky square please contact a camogie member.

Easter Raffle: We will also be holding our annual easter raffle.  Lines are on sale at €2 per line.  Prizes galore.

Ladies Football:

U-14’s: Had a great win against Aghabog on Monday last. Our next game is on Monday 2nd May away to Sean Mc Dermotts . Training continues as per management.

U-16’s: Beat Emyvale last Thursday evening in St.Mellans. Next game is Thursday 12th May at home to Donaghmoyne. Training continues as per management.

Senior Reserve League: We were beat by Monaghan Harps last Saturday evening. Next game is 6th/7th/8th May away to Magheracloone.

Senior B’s: Our next game 29th/30th/1st May away to Aughnamullen. 

Training: Continues on a Saturday evening at 6.30pm and on a Wednesday evening at 7.45pm. Girls are asked to make a huge effort to be there and to be on the training field on time.

Registration: (U-10’s €18.50) (U-12’s-U-18’s €33.50) (Seniors €48.50) (Mentors & Committee €28.50). Fees are now overdue and have to be paid ASAP. We ask parents to put the money in an envelope with their child/s name, address and date of birth as there will be somebody at training to collect this. Hard Luck: To Monaghan Ladies on their defeat to Laois last Sunday in the NFL Semi Final. Keep the heads up girls.

Handball:

Minor Doubles All Ireland Final: All roads lead to Kingscourt this Saturday (23rd) as Christopher Mc Kenna (D) partnered with Terry McElvaney-Monaghan Harps take on Cork opposition in the Minor Doubles All Ireland Final. The programme begins at 2pm with the minor game being 2nd on the list. We hope a lot of support travel to get behind the lads. Best of luck to the duo.

Ulster Final: We have another Ulster Final on the cards as Aaron and Ryan Mohan are part of a county 6 man team who have reached the final where Tyrone are the opposition. Hopefully the boy’s recent winning experience will stand to them in their quest to clinch another Ulster title.

County Doubles: We have the possibility of two all club county finals. In Nov 1 Christopher Mc Kenna(PJ) and Ian Treanor are already in the final while Owen Treanor and John Kelly are in the semi final. In Nov 3 Kevin Treanor and Patrick McKenna have qualified to the final with John Treanor (H) and Niall McKenna awaiting to play their semi final. In Nov 4 Jonathon McKenna and Joe Kelly are in the final. Good luck to all players. All finals will be notified via texts and the notes.

Club singles Finals: soon to be played. Times will be notified via texts.

Club Doubles: still have some outstanding matches and it is imperative these games are played .

Juveniles: Just a quick note to all juveniles to keep a handball in your kit bag during the football and hurling season as any chance you get to jump into the alley. We hope to start the new season earlier next year and begin directly with the coloured team system.
