ROCKCORRY G.A.A.

CLUB NOTES

5th April 2011

Reserve League Division 3

Last Sunday morning our reserve team travelled to Threemilehouse to play Sean McDermott’s. It must off been the early start as the team never really got going properly as our passing was a shocking and our shooting was, let’s say, a bit wayward! At the same time though the lads never gave up and going into the final stages of the game we were chasing a three point deficit and they chipped away and when Keelan Clerkin collected a pass from Dwayne Rooney he scored a great goal to equalize the game and share the spoils. The final score Sean McDermott’s 0-9 Rockcorry 1-6. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a selection of action photographs.

Reserve Team Fixtures

Tomorrow evening Friday 8th April we have a home game against Aughnamullen at 7.00pm and on Saturday 23rd April we travel to play Killeevan at 6.00pm.

Reserve Team Captains

Eoin Fitzpatrick has been chosen to captain our reserve team this year and takes over from Colin Reilly who has moved into our top thirteen graded players. I caught up with Eoin after the Sean McDermott’s game last Sunday and he stated that “it was a great privilege to be appointed captain of the team and I will do my best to lead the team to a division 3 title”. We’re all behind you on that one Eoin. The vice- captain is Rory Carroll and he advised me “I am looking forward to being part of the reserve team and helping Eoin in any way I can to realize our goal this year”. Both players are very experienced and have wonderful leadership qualities and on behalf of the club I wish them both the very best of luck for the year ahead.

Senior Team Fixtures

The next game for the seniors is an away game against Carrickmacross on Sunday 17th April and has a throw-in time of 2.30pm. On Sunday 24th April we have a home game against Currin at 2.30pm and on Friday 29th April we travel to play Eire Og at 7.30pm.

Minor Team

The minor team had a home game last Tuesday 5th April against Cuchulains, (Doohamlet & Toome). Please check out next week notes or visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for updates. This Tuesday 12th April they travel to play Maghercloone at 7.00pm and on Tuesday 19th April they have a home game against Killanny with a throw-in time of 7.00pm.

Under 16 Team

The amalgamated under 16 team, Rock Emmett’s, travelled to play Doohamlet last Thursday evening (31st March) and unfortunately they did not get their season off to a good start. Doohamlet were too strong and were always in control of the game and had plenty to spare by the final whistle. Their next outing is tonight Thursday 7th April when they play Killeevan at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 6.30pm.

Under 14 Team

The next game for the under 14 team is on Saturday 23rd April when they travel to play Drumhowan at 12 noon.

Under 12 Team

Well done to our under 12 team who secured a big victory after putting in a great performance against Clones last Saturday morning. They took control of the game at the early stage and never looked like losing the game. Up front the forwards took their scores very well while the defenders seemed to lock up shop and Clones found it very hard to break them down and in the end they ran out easy winners. Well done boys and girls. Team: Brandon Jones, Dillon McCollum, Gavin West, Sean Markey, Morgan Tate McGeough, Damien West, Pauric O’Brien, Kyle Brannigan, Cain Dillon. Subs: Caolan Phillips, Shane Greenan, Ryan Lynch, Phoebe Nesbitt, Niamh Cassidy, Aoife Markey, Chloe O’Brien. The next game for the under 12’s is an away game against Currin on Saturday 16th April and the game has a throw-in time of 12 noon.

GAA Respect Initiative

During the half time interval of the Monaghan v Kerry NFL game last Sunday a number of players from the St. Mary’s Primary School played Blackstaff as part of the GAA’s Respect Initiative and Integration of New Communities project. This scheme promotes positive behavior and to ensure that an enriching environment is provided for the promotion and development of Gaelic games. Youngsters are taught to Give Respect in order to Get Respect. The kids included Morgan Tate-McGeough, Pauric O’Brien, Dillon McCollum, Gareth Smith, Gavin West, Ryan Lynch, Kyle Brannigan, Louise Greenan, Michaela McMullen, Niamh Cassidy, Caoimhe McCormick, Amy Mulligan, Helen McDermott, Brianna McGorman and congratulations to all the kids on their big day out.
