Platinum Tanks Reserve League Division 3
Last Friday evening (8th April) we played Aughnamullen in the Platinum Tanks, Reserve Football League Division 3 and Aughnamullen secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 0-8 Aughnamullen 0-13. This was really a game of two halves and I am trying very hard to forget about our first half performance as it was frightful. We made too many unforced errors, gave away some very cheap scores and our accuracy in front of the posts left a lot to be desired. On the other hand, Aughnamullen certainly had the lion’s share of possession during the first half and enjoyed a 0-1 to 0-7 advantage at the break and in truth their lead should have been much greater as they too wasted a lot of scoring chances while in decent positions. If we were to salvage anything from the game we knew that a huge effort was required and thankfully the lads woke up and came out with all guns blazing as we saw more possession and enjoyed our best spell of the match and by the 16th minute we succeeded to close the gap to a couple points 0-7 to 0-9. Unfortunately, we were not able to maintain our momentum as Aughnamullen responded with a point from play on the 21st minute and shortly afterwards a foul on an Aughnamullen player gave them an easy scoring opportunity which they duly converted to restore a four point advantage 0-7 to 0-11. During the closing stages of the game we threw everything forward in search of further scores but sadly we only managed to muster up one additional point which came from the boot of Dwayne Rooney on the 25th minute. Aughnamullen, however, stepped up the pace and took a decisive grip of the game by kicking two additional points to copper-fasten the win on a score-line Rockcorry 0-8 Aughnamullen 0-13. Senior Team Captains
Keith Daly has been appointed captain of our senior team this year with Gary Calvert as vice-captain. Both players grew up in families steeped in the GAA tradition. Their fathers, Tom Daly and Nicky Calvert, were members of the 1982 double winning team and I imagine they are constantly reminded of this fact! Both players have made an enormous contribution to the club over the years and they possess great skill and the desire to wear the green jersey with pride. Okay, there may be occasions, when we see that ‘uncontrolled aggression’ (from one of the players!!!) go slightly overboard but that’s what drives them on, the will to win. On behalf of the club I wish them both the very best of luck for the year ahead.
GRM Minor Football League Division 2
Last Tuesday 5th April, our minor team survived a late onslaught from Cuchulains (Doohamlet & Toome) and had to come from behind to earn the victory. The game may not have been pretty at times but it certainly provided plenty of excitement, as very little separated the sides during the course of the match. Played on a damp, cold, wet and windy evening Cuchulains had the better of the opening half and enjoyed a 0-7 to 1-6 lead at the interval after playing with the advantage of a strong breeze. On the restart Rock Sarfields displayed some lovely football and soon turned the tables in our favour with three quick-fire goals to open up a four point advantage 3-7 to 1-9. However, we then proceeded to press the self-destruct button and a couple of giveaway scores let Cuchulains back into the game and when they scored a superb goal on the 25th minute they lead by two points, 3-7 to 2-12, with five minutes of normal time remaining. At this staged we were rocked, but the lads showed great heart and began to reassert their authority and responded immediately with two points to level proceedings. With the game now in injury time the lads put in a tremendous effort which saw them apply serious pressure and were awarded a free kick approximately twenty-five metres from goals which was coolly converted by Lorcan Smith. Within seconds the referee blew the final whistle and the final score was Rock Sarsfields 3-10 Cuchulains 2-12. The management and players should take great heart from this game as conditions didn’t make it easy for creative football. Hopefully it will provide the platform for another good performance next week when they travel to play Maghercloone. Keep up the good work lads.

Under 16 Team
The amalgamated under 16 team, Rock Emmett’s, played Killeevan in their second game of the campaign last Thursday evening (7th April). A great effort was put in by everybody and while they lost the eight point defeat was a little unfair on a side that created opportunities but unfortunately during this game did not take them. Killeevan, however, were more economical with their chances and when the opportunity presented itself they made no mistake and secured the win on a score-line Rock Emmets 0-8 Killeevan 3-7. Their next outing is tonight Thursday 21st April when they play Clones at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 7.00pm.
