There were one-point defeats for two Monaghan senior county teams on Sunday. The footballers lost out at home to Dublin in the NFL Division One, while the hurlers are still winless in Division 3B of the NHL after a late charge fell short away to Sligo. The ladies footballers continued their excellent run, however, with their fifth successive win away to Galway. The county minor hurlers will have to wait another week to get their Ulster MHL Division Two campaign underway after their game against Tyrone was postponed on Saturday.
The snow on Friday and Saturday also affected the start of the Reserve Football Leagues, with nine games being postponed. Of the games, that did go ahead, Clontibret edged past Latton in Division One, while Truagh were held to a draw in Cremartin. In Division Two, there were wins for Inniskeen, Carrickmacross and Ballybay over Drumhowan, Donaghmoyne and Doohamlet respectively, while Corduff got a walkover from Tyholland. The only game in Division Three saw Aughnamullen get the better of Clontibret, with the sole surviving Division Four match producing a win for Toome at the expense of Killanny.
