Presentation Night: Before a large attendance, we held a very successful annual presentations night in St. Mellans last Saturday night. All field sports of the club were in attendance for presentations for success attained in 2010. Club members, Owen+Mags Skinnader, Stephen+Michelle Kelly and Damian+Clare Treanor received gifts from the club as they tied the knot in 2010. Members of the mens minor, U-21 & O-35 teams were awarded with medals from their successes of last year. Pauric Treanor received the club U-21 player of the year. Niall Treanor picked up the Junior C player of the year, while Niall McQuillan won the Junior B player of the year. The club senior player of the year award went to Keith Sheerin. The club’s hall of fame award went to Jim Pat McKenna. Gerard Trenaor received an accolade for being chosen Monaghan Junior referee of the year. The camogie club player of the year was won by Siobhan McKenna. Siobhan, Sharon McQuillan & Orla McMeel were presented with gifts in recognition of their all-Ireland success with the Monaghan county camogie team. The ladies footballers were presented with medals from their triumphant year at intermediate and reserve level. Caoimhe Mohan also received an award in recognition of winning a schools & colleges all-star award. The ladies club were also recognised for their impressive success’s of last year in which they obtained the Monaghan ladies club of the year. The ladies reserve player of the year was awarded to Grainne McKenna, while their senior player of the year accolade went to Siobhan McKenna. In hurling, members of the reserve team were awarded with medals from their shield victory of last year. Ryan McKenna won the club’s hurler of the year award. Lotto Jackpot now €9,800: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot. The lucky numbers were 4, 20, 21, 24. There were 3 match 3 winners, each receiving €70: Martina Treanor-Derrykinnighmore, Roisin Donaghue & Caolan Gartland-c/o Josie. The jackpot now stands at a club record €9,800. Seniors: First action of the year for the seniors will be a home game against Casteblayney on Sunday 6th March.

Cairde Members: A special night is organised for the benefit of cairde members this Friday in St. Mellans at 9.30pm. Don’t miss out. Cairde membership is open to all our members and is an important source of finance in the development and running of your club.

Big Screen Action: This Saturday night, the bar will open early for the national league live screening of Dublin v Kerry and Armagh v Down. Throw in is 7.30pm.

Marquee Event: Keep free the May bank holiday weekend where the big tent comes to St. Mellans. Saturday night, 30th April, Declan Nerney is the headlining event, while Sunday 1st May is top entertainment from More Power to Your Elbow.

U14s: Training Monday & Wednesday in St Mellans at 7pm.

U12s: Training Monday & Thursday in St. Mellans at 6.30pm.

St Mellans Social Club Darts Tournament: is scheduled to begin in March. A new board has been erected in the lounge, throwing practice is recommended and everyone is welcome to join in.

Registration: Membership for 2011 is now due at €20. Membership can be paid at the club bar or with Gerard McKenna on 086 3463952.

Party & Confirmation Bookings: Anyone wishing to avail of the newly fitted out lounge for private functions can book by contacting Gary Meehan (086 8368417), Shane McKenna (087 7999069), Orla Sheerin (086 3660015), Carol Treanor or Bernard Treanor (086 2667752). Handball:

Club Singles: Competitions Div1 and Div2 are now up and running. All game details are on notice boards in St.Mellans.

Juveniles: are still being coached on Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 6pm. With new players still joining us on a weekly basis we will have be re-assessing the schedule shortly in how we coach these players.

County Doubles: We also have entered teams in the county Doubles from U12’s up to U16’s, Names participating are displayed on the bottom notice board outside the glass alley. The county board have decided to run an U11 county competition after the success of last year’s competition. We have entered several players into this competition. This will give our younger players a taste of county championships.

 

Camogie:

Players Meeting: We will be having a players meeting on Saturday the 26th of February at 7pm. Could everyone please attend and encourage others to attend. New players are always welcome so dont be shy.

Presentation night: Congratulations to Siobhan McKenna on her club camogie player of the year award.

Ladies Football:

Congratulations: To Grainne Mc Kenna who received Senior “A” player of the year and to Siobhan Mc Kenna who received Senior “B” player of the year last Saturday night at the awards. A presentation was also made to Caoimhe Mohan to recognize her outstanding achievements on receiving a school and college All – Star. Well done to all. Our senior girls all made a presentation to Peter, Gerry, Aiden, Mickey C, Ursula & Margaret for their time and effort with us throughout 2010. Congrats must also go to the organising committee of this awards night which was a very enjoyable night.

Training: Continues this Saturday 26th at 6.30pm and next Wed 2nd March at 7.45pm. All girls need to put in a huge effort to attend.

Well Done: To Monaghan Ladies on maintaining their unbeaten run in the league with a fantastic two point victory over Cork last Sunday in Emyvale.
