The county Under-21s continued their winning start to the Shamrock Cup when they beat Fermanagh on Saturday, but St. Macartan’s College were knocked out of the MacRory Cup by St. Michael’s, Enniskillen on a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7, despite a valiant comeback which saw them close an eight-point gap to just two.

Monaghan made a fine start to their Allianz National Football League Division One campaign on Sunday when they beat Galway by five points in Clones, while the ladies footballers had a comfortable win over Tyrone in the Bord Gáis Ladies NFL Division One. Both Monaghan teams in the Ulster Club Intermediate Football League lost by a point to Derry opposition over the weekend. Seán McDermotts lost to Foreglen on Saturday, before Rockcorry were edged out by Desertmartin on Sunday.

Monaghan’s bid for a fourth successive Ulster vocational schools football title ended on Tuesday evening, when they lost to Donegal in the final by 2-9 to 1-4.
