Monaghan’s Ulster inter-county vocational schools football final against Donegal was postponed on Friday due to yet more bad weather. The county Under-21s continued their winning start to the Shamrock Cup when they beat Fermanagh on Saturday, but St. Macartan’s College were knocked out of the MacRory Cup by St. Michael’s, Enniskillen on a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7, despite a valiant comeback which saw them close an eight-point gap to just two.
Monaghan made a fine start to their Allianz National Football League Division One campaign on Sunday when they beat Galway by five points in Clones, while the ladies footballers had a comfortable win over Tyrone in the Ladies NFL Division One.
