CLUB NOTES

15th February 2011

Social & Presentation Night

Our social and presentation night takes place on Friday 25th February in St. Mary’s Hall. Aogan O’Fearghail, Uachtaran Chomhairle Uladh will be our special guest on the night and admission will be €10 which can be paid at the door. Refreshments will also be served on the night. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Hall of Fame Award along with the Senior, Reserve and Minor Player of the Year Awards. Entertainment on the night will be provided by Rainbow. This is always a great nights craic and is one of the club’s highlights of the year so after you have cast your ballot, stop for a moment and think, where will I go now? Your next stop should be St. Mary’s Hall and we would love to see you there.

Underage Affairs

A juvenile committee meeting will take place tonight Thursday 17th February in the Resource Centre at 8pm. All current underage coaches, mentors and managers are requested to attend. In addition, any parent or individual that is interested in helping out with underage affairs you are also very welcome to attend. On Thursday 24th February we are holding a parent information & registration night for all underage players including under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s. All players and parents will be expected to turn up and indeed any new players are very welcome. Our youth officer Paschal Smith will be issuing a copy of our Code of Conduct / Code of Best Practice, along with this year’s juvenile membership forms through the local school this week and parents are requested to bring this documentation to the registration night accompanied with the €5 fee per child. We are appealing to people especially parents to volunteer their services to help out with our juvenile teams. You do not have to be an expert and you will be instructed by an experienced coach, but please come forward and volunteer. You may be able to spare one hour on a Saturday morning or one evening per week to supervise at training sessions, or maybe at a game. Whatever you can do please do come forward and offer your help as we need as many people as possible. For further details please contact our youth officer Paschal Smith at 086-8161028.

Coaching Manuals / DVD’s

Over the years the club has received numerous coaching manuals, games development information and dvd’s. If any person within the club has any of this documentation can you please send our youth officer Paschal Smith a text message at 086-8161028.

Rockcorry 1-6 Dundrum 0-9

Due to inclement weather conditions last weekend our senior team travelled to the Monaghan County training grounds at Cloghan to play Dundrum (Down) in the second round of the Ulster league competition and while we were missing a number of our regular players the team put up a tremendous performance and they were unfortunate not to come away with a win and had to settle for a share of the spoils. The final score Rockcorry 1-6 Dundrum 0-9. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for match report and action photo’s. This Sunday 20th February (weather permitting!!!) we have a home game against Silverbridge (Armagh) and the game has a throw-in time of 2pm.

 “Rock Country” Night

Howdy partners! Grab your cowboy hat and shine those boots and get ready for a good ole time as our first annual “Rock Country” night takes place on Friday 18th March in St. Mary’s Hall. The countdown has begun guys and gals for the best darn night this side of country road. Some of our best local singers will be belting out some of their favourite Country & Western songs so grab yourself a partner and dance the night away to some fabulous country classics for a root’n toot’n good time. So make a note in your diary Friday 18th March for a boot scootin, boogie good ole time.

Rockcorry Bowls Club

Last Thursday evening I attended the final of the Rockcorry Bowls club at St. Mary’s Hall. When I arrived Hughie Carroll and Tony Hannawin were battling it out to see who would meet Tom Daly in the final. After a fascinating contest Hughie Carroll progressed and played Tom in another intriguing game where the lead exchanged hand a couple of times but in the end the experience of Tom prevailed and he claimed the title and the lovely crystal bowl which was presented by Pat Brannigan and congratulations to Tom on his win. The Rockcorry Bowls club meets every Thursday night in St. Mary’s Hall and they would welcome any new player. So why not give it a try? Photos of the presentation can be found at www.rockcorrygaa.ie.
