Clontibret
Sean Gael Night
Oíche Sean Gael which was held in our Social Club on Friday night last was a huge success with players and supporters of the 40s, 50s and 60s turning out for a very enjoyable social event. Highlights of the night was the showing of a DVD featuring
clips of the ‘54, ‘55 and ‘58 county finals along with the 1956 All-Ireland Junior semi-final and final with Clontibret player Pat Clarke accepting the All Ireland cup. There was also a display of county final programmes from the era along with players diaries, carnival and ticket promotional material. Memories of the tea at half time, leaving the cars at the border and being picked up by the host clubs for gold watch
tournaments which were like the present All Ireland CLUB Championship
which Clontibret competed in and won several. A very enjoyable night for all and gave these former players and officials the chance to renew old acquaintances. M.C. on the night was Club President Pat Murphy who took on the job of contacting people about the night. Well done Pat.
