Team Affairs:
Last Saturday evening Gary and co. held their team meeting to set out their stall for the coming year. Paul Lennon was formally introduced to the players and outlined his approach for the immediate future. Paul brings a wealth of experience with him having trained the County Down hurlers for three years. Training began swiftly on Sunday morning and continues on Tuesday’s and Friday’s @ 8pm. An open invitation is extended to all those who wish to play adult football to make themselves available for training at these times. With fixtures coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, all hands will need to be at the pump. We wish them well in their endeavours.
Ulster Intermediate League:
The club is participating in this year’s Ulster Intermediate League. This is a perfect opportunity to compete against teams in a similar division throughout the province. The first outing is away to Foreglen, Co Derry, on Saturday 5th February @ 2pm. Foreglen is approximately 4 miles from Dungiven. Other teams in our group are Madden-Co Armagh, Ardoyne-Belfast, Stewartstown-Co Tyrone, Buncrana- Co Donegal. These games are scheduled to be played on consecutive weekends.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to Padraic Mc Guirk and David Mc Entee who won the North England University League Cup 2011 while playing for Liverpool Hope University. This was accomplished by defeating John Moore’s University by 4 points in the final on Sunday 23rd January.
Jubilee Year Celebrations:
The jubilee year celebrations will commence on Friday 25th February with mass in St Mary’s Church, and light refreshments will be served in the complex immediately after. This will be the first part of a series of celebrations throughout the year. More details later.
Juveniles:
Enda has extended an OPEN INVITATION to all those who would like to assist in any way with coaching and mentoring any juvenile team in the coming year. He intends to hold a meeting this Saturday @ 9pm in the complex. It is hoped that as many parents can come along and help out in the running of the juveniles. Help is very important at all juvenile trainings and matches, even if it is only to do an umpiring job or keep stock of jerseys and footballs.
