AGMs: The club’s Annual General Meeting has been fixed for Friday, November 19, with the juvenile club AGM set for Tuesday, November 16.
Street League: Our Under-13 street league continued last Sunday morning with round four of the inter provincial competition. Leinster, the early leaders in the league, were defeated by a resurgent Connacht side while in the other match Ulster and Munster fought out an entertaining draw with some wonderful scores from both teams. Best for Ulster this week were Ruairí Forde and Seán McKenna, while Colin Peppard and Niall McManus showed well for Munster. In the other game Conan Fowler and Aidan Burns led Connacht to victory while David Lowry and Calvin Cawley battled well for Leinster. Still time for any 11/12/13-year-olds to make an appearance next Sunday morning at 10.30am as we head into the last couple of rounds of the competition. Parents too are urged to come watch their young lads in what is some very entertaining juvenile football.
Saturday morning coaching: The Saturday-morning coaching sessions recently finished up for the year, with the usual successful sponsored walk. Thanks and well done to everyone involved throughout the year.
Development squads: A number of our young players have been named in county development squads and we are represented at Under-14, Under-15 and Under-16 level. Well done and good luck to all involved.
Votes of sympathy: At last week’s club meeting for October, votes of sympathy were passed to the families of Mary Murray and Frank Boyce. May they rest in peace.
Aido file: Best of luck to our Under-13 hurlers who play in a blitz semi final this Thursday as part of county underage development in the county. The lads have been putting in big performance and training hard the last few weeks in what would be the closed season -showing a true love for the game!
Handball: Three players entered the open competition hosted by St. Pat’s Handball Club in Cavan last week. Ryan Mooney gained valuable experience in the Under-13 competition. He lost to the eventual finalist Pat Conaty of Cavan. Ramunas won his first major competition when he defeated three opponents to win the Under-15 competition. It has been an exceptional year for one of our most dedicated young players. Terry McElvaney won the Under-17 competition. Our 12-hour handball marathon will take place on November 6, commencing at 9am. The courts will be available all day for those taking part. Weather permitting; the one-wall area will also be in use. There will be spot prizes and refreshments for the participants. The County Board will organise a blitz competition on Sunday, December 5 at two venues. The age-groups include Under-12 and Under-13.
