The 2017 Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship got underway on Sunday, July 23, when Truagh got the better of Donaghmoyne in the preliminary round at Clontibret. A Niall McQuillan goal had Truagh 1-5 to 0-7 up at half-time and they moved seven clear with a strong start to the second half, helped by a Daniel Finnegan major. With David Garland accurate from frees and Stephen Finnegan becoming more influential, Donaghmoyne hit six unanswered points to close to within the minimum inside added time, but a third Truagh goal from Colm McRory finished it.
