Saturday the 12th of April will see the opening of the new 2,000 covered seated stand in St Marys Park Castleblayney with the meeting of two of Monaghan greatest rivals the Castleblayney Faughs and County Champions Scotstown at 7pm . The development of St Marys Park has been on-going for the last couple of years, with the original Senior pitch been replaced with a superb new intercounty standard prunty pitch which is surrounded by an all-weather running track, the first part of the Club Redevelopment was completed April 2013. Phase two of the development has seen the clubs long term ambition of developing a covered seated stand come to fruition in the last twelve months, with a very modern stand built by Doohamlet Construction just completed in the last few weeks. The Stand which accommodates over 2,000 covered seats as well as a substantial Media Room , event control room , large male and female toilets along with a number of store rooms .
Chairperson of the Field Development Committee Pete Mc Mahon who has overseen the project is delighted with the progress to date “The Club have invested close to €1 million so far on the redevelopments and we hope that the up grading of St Marys Park will make it a venue which will attract the big intercounty and club games again, this will have direct spin off for the business in the area. The development of such a facility takes considerable work, just to give you an idea of the size of the project we have used over 16,000 concrete blocks, 83 tons of steel and 1,650 ton hard core stone in the building of the stand as well as miles of electrical cabling.” Pete added “We hope that everyone enjoys the new facilities, there has been a considerable amount of work and effort put in by all the Club people as well as significant support from the GAA at County, Provincial and National level , we would like to thank everyone for their efforts and hope that they will all enjoy watching their teams play in great comfort in St Marys Park”
